This work is called The Embrace and it was made many moons ago in my junior year of high school. It was one of my best works from back then. My dad is passed away now, but he always liked this one the best. The work was done on a piece of printer paper with pencil, ink, and Prismacolor wax-based colored pencils.
I have always liked gas masks and aliens. I used to have an Alien Workshop shirt with the flag of France and 3 alien gas masks on it over each color. Alien Workshop was an old skateboarding brand that is probably gone the way of Myspace... but it was first! If memory serves me well... the first thing i drew was the couple embracing in the middle. The next four things were the gas masks. That led me to consider just drawing on all corners from all angles.
I mentioned in my last post Art Abstractions it's always been a technique of mine to incorporate different orientations so that the artworks could be rotated and viewed from all angles. That's why i added one image of each side for your viewing pleasures and to help your auto-rotates!
My plan is to recreate this artwork. I was going to begin today on the art but it took so long to set-up my work station that i took a break and ended up in the OCD discord chat for most of the day. In fact, i am still there listening to music while i type this up!
I am looking forward to listening to We Melt Together while i work on the penciling. I have been saving it for this project. When i was in Sweden i wanted to do this project but all the copies and the original was here in Texas.
This one happens to be a copy of the original (which had a limited run) that i gave my dad for one of his birthdays. It's weathered from being in the frame and out in a barn in the elements. Texas summers and winters in a barn aren't very forgiving. So, i had a tough time getting a good enough capture of the art.
I will explain the artwork in more depth in the upcoming Work In Progress posts. I learned my lesson and won't save all the progress for the final post! I will make mention that her hair was a metallic silver and the gold in her wings was a metallic gold. Those metalic sheens didn't translate to the copies. The copies were done in an FDIC government facility printer though. Those things were good enough to print money but not metallic tones apparently.
I would be curious to hear your thoughts about this piece of art before i explain any of the subject matter or content in the posts to come. I don't want to cross-contaminate your interpretations any more than the title affords already! I am always amazed when people see things in the art that i didn't plan or intentionally design. I am going to try and sign up for NFT Showroom and may offer this one up as a first listing or perhaps the new version!
Thanks for taking time to drop by and check this out. Even bigger thanks to those that took the time to read this and/or comment. Much love to everyone!
Since it's late Sunday rolling into Monday here....
