These are a series of paintings that I've been working on for some time in my Italian Arthouse studio...
They are all in oil, oil pastel and pencil - on multifarious different surfaces.
I paint on card, found wood, brick, stone, canvas.
I love re-using an old, weathered surface, but also love heavy card.
Some of these paintings are large scale, some are tiny.
I've been working with the theme of Sheela Na Gig for the past couple of years: inspired by the original symbols found above churches in Ireland - and expanded upon in connection with Creative Expansion, Ecstatic Conscious, Orgasmic Bliss As The Way....
I often repaint older paintings: this year I've revisited a few older paintings in acrylic, painting them now in oils.
I use high quality natural oil paints, where the pigments are stone-ground and of a very high colour saturation.
I have a couple of old cupboard doors that I'm enjoying painting onto/ into... The door as portal, as gateway into another dimension or a new experience...
I'm contemplating whether or not to paint the sides of these doors too - to extend the colour onto the sides...
