Hello, OCA!
I recently got a notification that I was three years on HIVE this month and having just passed 700 followers on the same month, I thought I should try to do a partially full illustration full of drama.
Now, I said to myself I wouldn't do any "big" illustrated pieces because of a lack of better tools. The Samsung Tab S 10.5 I'm using is from around 10 years ago and often crashes my apps. It's even worse when I'm doing bigger stuff. But just this once I thought let's treat OCA.
I started on Hive (Steemit then) in August 2017 writing short historical primers on whiskey that I used to call "Whiskey Talk". I wasn't really that good at it but I really love whiskey history and just drinking itself. Thanks to
The idea for the composition isn't new. It's been in my sketches for some time. I think I even posted the thumbnails for it.
What is different is mostly the fantasy/anime theme. I've been watching a lot of anime lately since getting sick and as it is when you have time, your brain dreams and reimages things. I went with a whole Naruto and Bleach look because I found myself watching those a lot and was feeling nostalgic. I guess this post could be thought of as having a theme of nostalgia and remembering... somehow... maybe. I don't know. I'm not Mark Fisher.
PROCESS MATERIAL
Instead of a point by point written description of the process, I decided to include a timelapse video for you all to just see what I did, among with shots of each point beneath the video.
Timelapse Video
The processes for doing this piece were a little all over the place, which is why I decided on a time-lapsed video rather a shot-descriptor for each image shot. For instance, instead of doing full base color blocking before going to do the shadows, I just jumped straight into. see here
I really hope you all like this and really hope you enjoyed the video time-lapse. Despite how aggravating it might have been working on this, with all the technical problems, I really enjoyed creating this and sort of view as a kinda milestone in my artist journey.
The will be more coming in the near future and I hope to share in all of it with you all.
