Catching Fire
She is the anticipated spring after a cold winter. She leaves a trail of molten snow after her every step. She is the warmth to harsh conditions, and everyone adores her. But she's quickly and helplessly catching fire. The sweltering heat is hurting her, and before she and everyone else know it, her devastating fire burns down everything.
Including herself.
But my reality is flickering out
Summerβs fading out now
Drawing Catching Fire
I was working on a different drawing, but I was getting bored. To be honest, I have a really bad case of short attention span that β oh, look, a kitty! I get bored easily. In my line of work, I am expected to read at least a couple of scientific journals a week. And if they're about the same topic (which is the case, really), I feel like I would die.
The same happens to me when I work on a drawing that would in theory take more than 6 hours. I started to draw bits and pieces of two such things, but my interest is quickly dwindling the longer time I spend on them. I needed a diversion β a subject that would normally not take me 6 hours to digitally work on (what a scam; this one took me nearly 5 hours).
At this point, Pinterest is a life saver, a haven of interesting topics and ideas. For this piece, I was attracted to this beautifully lighted portrait.
The portrait photography was taken by Julia Kuzmenko McKim and was showcased in an article entitled Secrets to Crafting Top-Quality Beauty Portraits: Studio Lighting.
I subsequently identified what attracted me most to the photo. It was the hair.
The GIF above basically shows how the drawing process went. I played around with it (especially in terms of colors). I wanted it to look more saturated and a little more fiery, so I painted it the way it is now.
What I didn't like doing was the hair.
While the original portrait attracted me so much to the hair, I found it ridiculously difficult to draw. I was just starting to go through the hair (see below) when I nearly decided to give it up and was about to scrap the whole thing.
But I felt bad for the effort I put on drawing everything else about her. I struggled quite a lot on the skin and hence took a lot of time getting it a little bit right. I couldn't possibly discount that!
The point in the drawing when I wanted to scrap the whole piece.

Notes
I think I can still improve the hair... only, I don't think I can be patient enough to do it. Yes, I'm still blaming my attention span... or lack thereof. π Given this, I'm not even sure when I'll get to finish all my other WIPs, but hopefully soon enough (as long as my high tendency to get distracted gets taken cared of).
At any rate, I keep promoting the Japanese duo group, γ¨γ«γ·γ« (Yorushika). I love how their music sounded, even when I don't understand the lyrics at all. Weird, huh? But I appreciate it more when I read translated lyrics, with their song γγγγ³γγ― (Hitchcock) being my favorite.
All text in H5 italics are snippets from an English cover of Hitchcock (it hits differently!).
Teacher tell me what all your
hopes and dreams are.
Or perhaps you lost them on the way
so you could make it this far.
