My self-imposed challenge continues. This time, I took interest in digitally painting jewelry. I found a cute reference on Pinterest this time, depicting a woman adorned with both a tiara and a ring. And, well, she looked so cheeky I just really had to draw her.
A big takeaway in this work for me is that I think I'm finding it easier to paint skin now. I mean, how couldn't I when all I ever did almost every day is draw human portraits. LMAO. My earlier attempts had uneven skin coloring, which I generally just attributed to my inability to blend or choose colors properly.
Lately, I think I'm getting the hang of it, and the transitions in color (at least for the skin) got a lot more smoother. This one took a lot more time than I expected (I mean, like a lot).
Drawing Cheeky
I called this Cheeky because our model looks so mischievous, it turned the whole thing endearing. The yellow background also added to the mood, I think.
As per usual, it took me two messy sketches before I settled with a cleaner one. I struggled a lot with the hand, but oh boy, I think it ended up rather well. 😂 I at least managed to save it while coloring, bless.
I didn't enjoy drawing the objects of interest this time. Hahaha. The tiara was particularly difficult, I had to make it up. The ring turned out to be so-so, but at least still resembled one! xD I was trying to figure out how to paint crystals/diamonds, and in this one, I settled with off-white to white, with strong contrasts on the edges.
The hand is my favorite here. This is the first time ever that I will say I liked how I drew the hand. I normally curse drawing hands to non-existence, so that statement says a lot. 😂
I used both pencil and watercolor brush on the hair. The individual strands were drawn with watercolor brush. I had to use the blur tool to blur down the ends.

Notes
I really liked drawing this one, even when I didn't really like how the jewelry ended up (which defeated the purpose of my self-imposed challenge). When I thought I already had a formula every time I use MediBang, I just keep finding new ways to draw/color with it, which makes the end result better. I'm now out of reference pictures for a next drawing, but still on the lookout. xD I don't think I'm ready to face my WIPs yet (gosh, I kept yapping about these WIPs since time immemorial).
