For those who don't know, I come from Russia. All my childhood I watched and read fairy tales, I especially liked the old productions of the 60s for the strange images of the heroes, their makeup and disturbing classical music. All this created a unique atmosphere.
The other day I remembered a fairy tale that became a real discovery for me already in adulthood - this is "The Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors" (1963) about two twin girls who decided to fight evil within the kingdom.

'Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors' is a werewolf movie. A bright children's fairy tale, with the most stupid plot without logic, some kind of unthinkable surrealistic trash - hides under itself a complex and cruel political game of three serious adults, whose relationships are rather complicated and extraordinary.
The 'daytime face' of the film has its pluses - cute twins Olya and Yalo, thoughtful decorations, funny chases and all sorts of wonderful little things, like the royal black cat in boots or the royal robes. But the 'night face' has a lot more.

It is this duality that captivates, providing a wide range of emotions. This fairy tale gives children a buffoonery with an educational overtones, and for adults - pure politics. The politics of the kite, the snake and the toad.
For myself, I have always singled out the image of the main queen of the fairy tale - Anidag. In addition to the unique appearance of the actress Lidiya Vertinskaya, her character has a cruel disposition and an incredible lust for power.
