Hello, dear Hivers
Today I wanted to share with you a piece I finished this day. Although, I may add some final touches later on.
There's a portrait of Nawojka - the first Polish female student at Jagiellonian University. It is said, that she started her higher education at the beginning of the 15 century. Women were forbidden at that time at universities, so she had to dress as a man to attend classes at the liberal arts faculty.
This portrait is one of a couple of other pieces that I'll be creating for the upcoming exhibition at our museum. The collection is dedicated to women at Jagiellonian University - first students, first doctoral, lecturers, and so many more, who actually created a path, that fellow women are following. It is an important voice in academic disputes, as that situation started to change out hundred years ago.
It started out with the conception - a young girl aspires to mean something in a science world, portrayed in front of the oldest, medieval building of Collegium Maius, surrounded by astronomical objects such as astrolabes and a globe with a sky map. She has a short, black, slightly curled hair and green eyes (green, pink and beige are one of the colours of the exhibitions scenography).
Then, I changed the idea a bit - she鈥檚 not to sos shy anymore, rather confident and charismatic. I choose pink as the under colour of paper, too. Pink for years was the colour of a masculinity, it changed after WWII.
A portrait of a true help and the first critic - Arya.
I softened her features in the portrait, to create her more girly, as she was about 13-14 when she started higher education.
Here鈥檚 first layer of pastel on her face.
The artists process.
And the final result. After some debates at work I decided to sty with pastels, as it鈥檚 one of my favourite techniques of painting, light, delicate and vivid.
She鈥檚 also surrounded by mallows - flowers that symbolises womanhood and healing.

Dzisiaj chc臋 podzieli膰 si臋 z wami kawa艂kiem, kt贸ry sko艅czy艂am tego dnia. Chocia偶 p贸藕niej mog臋 doda膰 kilka ostatnich poprawek.
To wa偶ny g艂os w akademickich sporach, bo sytuacja zacz臋艂a si臋 zmienia膰 sto lat temu. Ma kr贸tkie, czarne, lekko kr臋cone w艂osy i zielone oczy (ziele艅, r贸偶 i be偶 to jeden z kolor贸w scenografii wystawy). I efekt ko艅cowy.
Jest r贸wnie偶 otoczona malwami - kwiatami, kt贸re symbolizuj膮 kobieco艣膰 i uzdrowienie.
