Today I wanted to do something different from what I always do on the platform, making things with wood has always caught my attention and I wanted to take advantage of the fact that I had a few popsicles to spare after having made a gift for this secret Santa year that my group of friends always do, it turns out that I have always liked butterfly knives but I don't have the money to buy one so I decided to make one. Here you have the step by step of the whole process, I hope you like it and maybe I will do other more interesting things.
First I chose 9 popsicles that were in good condition, these would be all the necessary ones for the elaboration of the butterfly knife.
Of those 9 popsicles I need 3 to make the body of the butterfly knife.
each of those popsicles divided them in the middle vertically as seen in the image
then with another of the popsicle I measured 2 centimeters and marked 5 millimeters from one end inwards and 5 millimeters from the other end and marked a point there too, this has to be very precise since this is what holds the entire butterfly knife in place.
I'm going to need two pieces of this type and they are cut very carefully so as not to splinter and damage the wood.
then you must sand the edge that you cut until it is round like the other end as seen in the photo
With another popsicle we will make what the blade would be, we mark how we want the blade to be, in this case I kept it simple since I only have a cutter and a small sandpaper.
this is how it came up after I cutted it and sanded a little bit.
then very carefully, we take a hard wire and we make a hole 5 millimeters from the tip and that it is as centered as possible, you can use a small-tipped drill if you have it and it would be much better and we also drill the two oval pieces to 5 mm from each end.
then with the pieces that we cut at the beginning, we glue them to make two woods with 3 popsicles each, as seen in the image
one centimeter from the tip of each one, we cut it and it has to stay that way.
then we glue the two pieces at 4 popsicles with school glue or whatever you have on hand, with the edges that we cut on the side where we have the holes for the other popsicles, it should look like this
With the same wire with which we opened the holes, we all go through it together with the knife that we glue to the two pieces of wood in the shape of an oval to leave the knife fixed and then the body of the knife can close on it.
This is the result of how the butterfly knife turned out, I hope you like it and soon I will be bringing more crafts with popsicles
