Hello again, artsy bees!
Remember the last piece I posted, with a coffee? Well, this is the second picture of that project!
If you want to see the first picture, here it is!
The last one was for the friend who liked spending time in coffee houses. This one is for the one who enjoyed going to the movies. Most part of it was similar to the Coffee piece, except the popcorn. Oh, the popcorn... I painted most of it one by one, staring at the pictures of popcorn. It destroyed my neck.
Progress
Of course, it all started with a sketch, no surprises there.
I usually put the basic colors on the image with a multiply layer over the sketch. This time, I duplicated the sketch layer on the top and put the flat/basic colors underneath it. I colored the sketch too, so it would be easier to blend in.
After this, added the shadows with pale blue on a multiply layer and some sort of cyan light on a linear dodge layer. This time I didn't use the erasing method for the shadows, since this piece was brighter because of the "cinema light". Also, this time I used airbrush to make everything softer. I usually don't do that. I'm a basic girl, I often go for the basic hard round brush.
It's simple after that. I mean, it's the hardest part, but simple to explain; the one, the only; overpainting! Over all the layers, pick and paint, pick and paint, pick and paint... Despite my use of airbrush on the planning part, I ended up rendering the picture with the hard round again. I can't help myself, I honestly enjoy the look of strokes.
The infamous popcorn :D The idiot that I am, I started painting them one by one and... Halfway around, I finally figured out a way to make my life easier and copy pasted some pieces of the parts I painted together. I painted over them nonetheless, so it wouldn't look obvious, but it sure helped the progress.

So, that's it! This was the second piece of "free time" trio. Not as much as the first one, but I ended up liking this as well. Of course, Google helped me a lot with the popcorn pictures, hehe. My only concern is that I over-blended her face, it looks flat to me. Besides that, I'm happy with this one.
