Her father gave me the picture to make a toon out of so I got to it. The picture was damn smudge worthy but I resisted the urge it has been quite long I did a full shading. - although they came out a bit odd sometimes, I still keep pushing it :p
Before I started tho, I revised my palette and found out the secret to my shading problems all along. My base colour! It has always been too bright so when I started shading the bump doesn't come in immediately. Everything just seemed like I'm drawing an umbra region which doesn't make sense until I include the highlights.
So I got a more natural base and started shading with a not-too-dark colour. Trust me, I loved it from the first stroke to the last. It was really motivating seeing the outcome panning out the way I wanted it with little stress or brain overwork.. I didn't stroke carelessly though.
Ever since I started digital painting. My ultimate goal has always been to create a 3d looking cartoon out of regular images. The past few days, I made steps that has now brought me close to the goal. Well, absolute smudge painting excluded, I've tried to use the paint Splatter and Smudge combination with came out just fine but took a lot of time. I got the 3d look but still it wasn't that outstanding but this was just it!
I drew into the night (2:00am) Nigerian time, continued in the morning till I got to the cloth. The cloth was frustrating. A white wedding gown-like texture. I had to change the background to black so as to shade the whites. Base was filled with slightly dark colour, shade was grey and the highlights pure white. I couldn't catch all the details but I did the best I could.
PROCESS
One thing absolutely different about this art is that I completely dished the outline for the final output. Yeah, I used the outline for proper guides but I had to hide the layer for the final output. I just wanted something classic.
