It's just the second day of my discovery of this method and I enjoy it already. My main challenge though is the colour. There's really no point knowing how to blend and mix everything but the colours are off. This character was intended to be brown. This is just how far I could get him on the brown side.
This is Caleb Paul , a Character design for a book. Take a look at how I started, compare with the final output. They don't in any way relate. I had planned to continue with the colour but it spontaneously evolved.
I shaded it to the painted that I could with the combination of Splatter and Smudge and it still wasn't giving me the 3d effect. Although the base wasn't present and the presence of a base would give it the look I want, so I thought.
I added the base, it was still looking off so I started combining and mixing paint Splatters on the face and smudging it accordingly. That was just how to complexion evolved and well, it moved towards my goal.
It took me about 7 hours to get to this point and I had to request for the coat colour. Then I completed the clothe and finished up the rest of the shades and corrected little errors. There are still some that my newbie perspective won't catch. The ultimate goal is to attain perfection
