In one of my previous sketches, I wrote that painting landscapes is easier than, say, a portrait. Because nature doesn't get pissed off if you add an extra branch to a tree.
Painting people is trickier.
Capturing a faithful likeness isn't a walk in the park. In my opinion, it requires more experience than I currently have. Probably more than I'll have in the near future. Besides, a faithful likeness doesn't necessarily mean the person will like it - who actually likes themselves in a passport photo? For some models, there's even a risk they won't like the image, even if Michelangelo Buonarotti himself painted them. Come to think of it, he had his own challenges with Pope Clement VII and the Sistine Chapel 😊

Regarding my portrait of a girl, it seems I drew inspiration from the previous day (the last day of April is dedicated to a folk celebration we call "Burning of the Witches" here). I can freely use this sarcasm because the portrait doesn't depict a real person and it's purely artistic license. It's more of an outburst of inspiration.
Yes, outburst - that's the right word.
I'll need to paint many, many such portraits. Because persistence is the key to success. And also the courage to put your work out there publicly.

U některé ze svých předchozích malůvek jsem napsal, že malovat krajinu je jednodušší, než třeba portrét. Protože příroda se na tebe nenasere, když třeba přiděláš stromu jednu větev navíc.
S malováním lidí je to ošemetnější.
Vystihnout věrnou podobu, to není jen tak. Na to si je podle mě potřeba víc zkušeností, než mám já. Nejspíš víc, než budu mít v dohledné době. Kromě toho, věrná podoba ještě neznamená, že se bude dotyčnému líbit ‒ kdo se líbí sám sobě třeba na fotce v pasu? U některých modelů dokonce hrozí, že se jim obrázek nebude líbit nikdy, ani kdyby je maloval Michelangelo Buonarotti osobně. Ostatně, ten si s Klementem VII a Sixtinskou kaplí taky užil svoje 😊
Omg, já se nesrovnávám s renezančním umělcem, jen se snažím ten článek nějak odlehčit 😊
Co se týká mého portrétu dívky, vypadá to, že jsem si vzal inspiraci ze včerejšího dne (poslední duben je u nás zasvěcený lidové zábavě zvané „pálení čarodějnic"). Tento sarkasmus si můžu beztrestně dovolit, protože portrét nezobrazuje skutečnou osobu a je to čistě autorská licence. Vlastně je to takový výron inspirace.
Ano, výron, to je to správné slovo.
Budu podobných portrétů muset namalovat hodně a hodně. Protože vytrvalost je předpoklad úspěchu. A taky odvaha vyjít se svou prací na veřejnost.
No, myslím, že se máte na co těšit.
