"Mandala’s are sacred pieces of artwork which are used to evoke healing, spiritual development and meditation."

Inspired by the progression of the four seasons, I decided to draw a complex mandala.
I would like to share the creative process behind creating the drawing that took me about three months to finish.
I used pencil to draw the basic structure on a large piece of green paper. Then proceeded with colored pencils, dry pastels and black ink pens of various sizes.
In order to make basic mandala drawing more dynamic I decided to add the tubes swirling from the center of the image out through the four corners.
Here are a couple of shots from my notebook, the sketches that were done as a preparation;
I find the usage of colored paper very useful in drawing. Perfectly clean, white paper puts a lot of pressure on some artists.
Not having any white spots to "fill in" from the very start, feels like someone has done half a job for you.
Pretty grateful for projects that are large in size and complex in their making.
Also, a good opportunity to rest from perfectionists way of thinking and minimizing the pressure of having to do everything perfectly.
"The word Mandala means ‘sacred circle’ and is derived from the word ‘mandra’ which means ‘container of essence’."
