An happy Wednesday to you all and happy Befana! Here in Italy it's holiday and we celebrate the day of the Befana.
Befana (the name become from the Epiphany, a Christian feast day) is a folkloristic figure very loved by all the cildren here. She's a very old (and ugly) woman who, during the night, deliver gift to the good children thanks her broom. She put the gifts (usually candies and chocolate) inside a sock that the children place for her. If a child was a bad child during the past year, the Befana will deliver to him/her just some pieces of coals! _
This year was a different Befana day cause the covid restrictions, but I painted a funny Befana for you:
It's an oil paitning on 200 gsm paper in A5 size and here one of my favorite italian poem about the Befana (I just published it a couple of years ago here):
La Befana vien di notte
Con le scarpe tutte rotte
Con le toppe alla sottana
Viva, Viva La Befana!
In English is:
The Befana comes by night
With her broken shoes
with the patches on the skirt
Hurray, hurray to the Befana!
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia
