Any flat surface can become a medium of artistic expression. Having researched waste and its upcycling, I try to make use of the materials available around me. As the saying goes, “even broken crayons can still color,” so it is with waste — even old newsprints can serve as a drawing surface. In one of my advanced drawing classes, I introduced my students to creating art on newspaper using charcoal pencils. I hope you get to try this too.
