It's still July 12th on some parts of the globe so my art is still valid. Recently, I've found a website called Days Of The Year where you can see things that are celebrated for the day. I then had an idea of drawing one that is celebrated for the day. Of course, I only draw it when I like what is being celebrated. Drawing every day is still impossible for me and it's draining and exhausting, to be honest.
For July 12, one that is celebrated on this day is the "Different Colored Eyes Day". I think it will be fun to draw someone with different eye color and I still haven't drawn someone like it so I gave it a try.
This is the final output. I took a break at making cartoon-ish drawings and did a semi-realistic portrait for a change. I am aiming to draw a red-haired lady and I think I quite achieved what was on my mind. I am satisfied and actually happy with the result.
Did you know that the term for eyes with different colors is called Heterochromia? The word was derived from the Greek words "heteros" (different) and "chroma" (color). This condition is caused by the unequal distribution of melanin, though it can be caused by other factors. Only less than 1% of the population have heterochromia. (I'd like to meet someone who has these eyes! If it having heterochromia does not impose any health risk, then I think possessing these eyes is awesome!)
PROCESS:
I took around 6 hours doing this piece. I know, I know. You may say I took a long time drawing this but actually this one of my fastest drawings. I would usually take days to finish a semi-realistic drawing so I am already happy doing this for only 6 hours. Lol.
My first step is to sketch the image. I do not have any reference so I just sketched freely and drew from imagination. I started coloring the face, then the sweater, then the hair.
I also tried to experiment on this piece by adding textured brush for the shiny eye shadow and freckles. Then around the image, I added a soft glow because I just feel like it.
Maybe you're wondering about why her lips is covered by her clothes. Is there a deep meaning I want to relay with my drawing? Well, that's up to you but I actually covered her mouth because I like to draw a messy hair popping out from her clothes and I'm not in the mood to draw lips. That's all. If I drew lips, I might have taken 7 hours to draw it. Haha.
Finishing the piece, I added an oil paint texture then blended it using overlay.
I still have a lot to learn in drawing and I am happy with my slow progress. :)
