April 17th is among the days ONE OK ROCK fans consider special because it's Taka's birthday. Takahiro "Taka" Moriuchi is ONE OK ROCK's band vocalist. The band is from Japan composed of four members (Taka, Toru, Tomoya, Ryota) and is among the most popular Japanese bands today. They've been touring around the world non-stop to visit and play their songs firsthand to their fans.
This semi-realistic headshot art of Taka I drew was still drawn last 2018. I was waiting for a perfect time to upload it on my Instagram account but I always forget to post it. I've actually uploaded a time lapse video of the process of this drawing way back 2018 on DTube. I hope this art I posted on Instagram made some ONE OK ROCK fans happy. 😊
DRAWING PROCESS:
1.) I basically just traced Taka's face and body to make it easier for me to get Taka's shape. I traced using the base colors first. Aha! 🤣
The photo reference I chose was from a Rock Sound magazine's photoshoot last 2018. I am fond of drawing my favorite artists on side view position, therefore, this photo is the perfect piece!
2.) Add shadows and highlight then blending it using the color mix tool .
3.) For the hair, I tried my best to trace it but I also freely drew other strands. I'm quite impatient sometimes. 😅
4.) For the body, I used a brush named Pure Paint to create the sloppy brush effect at the bottom. Sorry, I can only have patience for drawing semi-realistic headshots. Please don't ask me to draw a full-body semi-realistic art. Hahaha.
5.) The background was the usual background I use for semi-realistic headshots. I just change the colors for every artwork I do. Lol. Obviously, the circle thing is just a huge brush stroke.
6.) For the grain effect, I used the adobe lightroom android app because I was too lazy to edit it on my laptop. Lol.
That's all! I know there's a lot of blending mistakes on this artwork. I'm not actually very good on doing semi-realistic arts but I'm still proud and happy how this turned out. 🤍
(Sorry for the photos for the steps. I wasn't able to save a photo for each step. >.<)
Happy Birthday, Taka!
