Good morning and happy first of September! Well, just like the most of my art posts here, this drawing is two days late. Aaah!!
Last August 30 was the INTERNATIONAL WHALE SHARK DAY and I've decided to make a whale shark art. This is also my first time to draw a fish!
INTERNATIONAL WHALE SHARK DAY
The International Whale Shark Day is celebrated to raise awareness about the gentle giants of the ocean. Whale sharks are already considered endangered.
Let's have a little trivia!
This sea creature is called whale shark, but to what group does it truly belong? Whales or sharks?
Or maybe it's half whale, half shark? 😂
Don't google it, just try guessing it! If you now have an answer, scroll below my drawing. Maybe my drawing can help you decide what it really is!
Hmm.. are you at this point of my post to know whether whale sharks are whales or sharks? Well, it's time to unveil the mystery!
Whale sharks are sharks! The calmest and most gentle shark breed. Even though they can go deep as a thousand meters, they prefer staying on the shallow, the reason why these sharks are becoming endangered. They have the tendency to swallow plastic and other things that are toxic for them. Whale sharks grow around 65 feet and have a mouth that is about 5 feet wide. Sounds scary but no worries because they're not aggressive as those sharks we see on movies. They have tiny teeth and don't use it for eating, so don't worry you won't be shredded by whale shark. They'll just suck you whole. Lol. Just kidding! But if they do, I'd fit perfectly on a whale shark's mouth. That's why I don't go to the sea! I don't want to be the next meal of whatever creature there is in the deep blue sea! 😂
Here are more whale shark trivias.
In my country, whale sharks are locally called as "BUTANDING". There are a couple of areas in the country where whale sharks can be spotted and people have took advantage of these by turning the area as a tourist spot for whale shark watching.
A nearby town was often visited by whale sharks and so they turned it into a tourist spot where visitors will ride a boat which would take them near the giant fishes. I'm not sure if the whale shark watching is available all throughout the year since I still haven't been there.
Meanwhile, there's a very popular place in the country to watch and swim with the whale sharks. I wish to go here in case we visit Bohol someday. I'll just pray the boat won't flip because I can't swim. :)
= DRAWING PROCESS =
Aside from my first time drawing a fish, this is also my first time to drawing bubbles and underwater. So much first times here and I'm happy with the output even thought it's not perfect. I also drew a woman swimming nearby the whale shark to show how huge the fish is.
