I have been working on a mental health collection series for a while now... Actually I was not motivated enough to finish the pieces. I can get discouraged pretty easily, if I am doing something alone... If I have a partner and responsibility, I go all the way, my bf helps me a lot with that.
I believe that mental health awareness is a really important issue, which is still not stressed enough. Even though it has became more openly talked about in the last years, people suffering from mental illnesses are still being “alienated” and considered “crazy”.
I tried to look at the issue from an optimistic point-of-view even though it is a dark and pessimistic subject. When mental health art is considered, we generally observe dark art interpretations – I respect and love all the current artworks – however I wanted to describe them in a colorful and delighting way so that people can look at these illnesses from a different angle. I have been brainstorming on this issue for a really long time, to be honest, I have lots of dark art sketches on manifold papers about mental health, but I excluded all those pieces…
About major depression:
Major depression is characterized by at least two weeks of low mood that is present across most conditions. Symptoms of major depression include low self-esteem, loss of interest in daily activities, low energy and pain without a clear cause. Major depression can be an isolating, painful and bewildering illness to live with. It takes time and commitment to find the right treatment, but with the right treatment, people can live a healthy and fulfilling life.
