Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
We're onto another series of Twitch emotes! I've shared about my streaming journey on Twitch in multiple posts and the art I've done both for my Twitch channel and for my viewers. Earlier this year, Twitch announced that Affiliates (such as myself) would get access to many more emotes slots so I was scrambling to draw new ones to fill them for the first half of last year.
Anyway, for this new batch I wanted to make them more memey, and the first one I thought of was a Big Brain emote! This is a reference to the galaxy brain meme which I'm sure everyone has seen before:

I chose this because I play a lot of puzzle games on stream and it's one of my favourite genres. Every time I solve a puzzle I always feel so accomplished and "big brain" so I thought this emote would be perfect.
Here are some of the references I used:
And here's the sketch I settled on:
I did the outline and colour for my TacoCat first:
Then I worked on colouring the brain and I really liked that it contrasted my TacoCat colour really well. I also made sure it was extra bright since the emote will be about 56px in chat and I wanted the brain to be noticeable. So in the end we get this:
I thought this looked pretty good but I wasn't really sure about the hand. I tried flipping it the other way but it didn't look as good so I left it at that.
For the second emote I wanted a jokey/threatening one for whenever someone in chat was being annoying. I saw a lot of different knife emotes before but I really liked the look of this one and used this as a reference for mine:
So this was the sketch I came up with:
I had already drawn a chef version of my TacoCat since I play a lot of cooking games and sometimes use it as an on-screen avatar for my streams. So I colour sourced what I did last time for the knife.
The actual TacoCat is simple since it was just a zoomed in version of my current one. And in the end we get this:
I really liked how this turned out although I wasn't very sure about the hand/paw. I didn't know how else to do it though so I just kept it at that and I think it works.
I think both of these turned out pretty well!
