Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
This next one is part of another series of drawings I started as as a redemption reward over on my Twitch channel! It's called Build a Chibi, where I basically draw a custom chibi character for a viewer based on a template I collated.
The viewer will then choose a hairstyle and facial expression from these options and I had a chibi head shape ready as well and I'd draw what they wanted into a chibi digital sticker!
This next one was for another one of my streamer friends named Pikaninja who wanted this hairstyle and expression:
I thought it was quite cute and I think he has long hair irl too, so it fits.
Here's the outline:
Pika really likes aquatic creatures since he's studying to be a marine biologist so he wanted me to add in an antennae like an angler fish. I learned that it's called an ilicium.
I've never really added an accessory to a chibi before so I was curious how this would look especially since it's flat.
Initially Pika said he wanted the bulb to be in front of the forehead but I had some trouble getting the position right though because I didn't want to block the hair.
I added colours based on what Pika chose from my colour palette.
After adding some highlights and shadows, this is what it looks like:
Pika wanted me to change the position of the ilicium and he preferred the one further out so I tried to draw it so that it wouldn't cover the hair too much.
I didn't want to outline the ilicium because it's quite thin and the lines would be too bold so I just coloured it and added in some highlights. The style didn't really match up though but Pika said he liked it so I left it at that.
I changed the colours a little bit more based on his feedback and in the end, we get this!
Pika said he loved it and has since used it as his profile picture on Twitch! I'm always so flattered when people use my art as their display pictures or show them off to others in some way. It's like they're so proud of my art and want to use it to represent themselves; what an honour!
