I could say “Avocados are awesome!”, but you might have heard something similar recently. Anyway - Avocado is probably the most lovely fruit in the world.
Today I have some facts about it with some of my arts with avocado in the first place.
Avocado has not always been an avocado.
Avocados have been called many things throughout history, including: ahuacatl by the Aztecs, aguacate by the Spanish conquistadors, and “alligator pears” by Sir Hans Sloane or “Butter Pears” in India and China.
Avocado is a fruit, not a vegetable.
Avocado consists of 73% water, 15% fat, 8.5% carbohydrates (mostly fibers) and 2% protein
The taste and texture depend on the region in which they’re grown. Firmer and lower in fat avocados we can find in Florida and Hass (this dark kind) in Mexico (guacamole ❤).
Avocados are quite old
The earliest use of avocado found by archaeologists dates back to 7,000 years BC in Peru, seeds have been found buried with Incan mummies dating back as far a 750 BC, but the first Europeans to eat Avocados were the Spanish Conquistadors in the 16th Century.
Avocado beats banana in potassium content.
Banana may have been best known as the potassium king of fruits, but it has only 487 mg of the minerals. Meanwhile, avocado has a whopping 975 mg per piece.
You can use a banana or brown paper bag to make them ripen faster.
Avocado fruit is already ripe when it feels heavy for its size and it has a dark color. You can quicken the ripening process by putting it in a brown paper bag for 2-4 days, and even faster when you add a banana in the bag. Bananas release ethylene gas, a natural plant hormone that aids in ripening fruit.
You can use them in many different ways
Not only for sandwich or salad but also as vegan butter, icecream (Brazil), in hot dog topped with sauerkraut, mayonnaise, and Avocado
(Chile), as guacamole (Mexico), as a dessert with other fruits and sugar (Hawaii).
Avocado is awesome healthy
It's good for keeping the eyes and immune system healthy, it's a skin protector against signs of aging and UV ray effects and also it's cholesterol-lowering.
Avocado is climacteric.
It means that as long as the fruit is attached to the tree, it would not ripen due to a fruit stem inhibitor (it pickable when a few mature avocadoes have fallen already)
Avocados are in the same family as cinnamon.
Ok! Time for arts!
I hope you will enjoy it :)
As always - thanks for reading and see you soon! 🥑
