"Insect-pollinated Flower"

Insect-pollinated flowers are flowers that allow insects to carry pollen. The characteristics of insect-pollinated flowers are that they are showy, have a nice fragrance, and produce nectar. These characteristics of insect-pollinated flowers are, of course, to attract nectar. It is said that insect-pollinated flowers are the more evolved form of flowers.
In contrast, there is also a flower known as the wind-pollinated flower. These flowers are plain and have no sweet fragrance or nectar, and they carry a large amount of pollen in the wind.
Flowers classified as insect-pollinated flowers include roses, azaleas, and dandelions. Many of these flowers are often conspicuous. Flowers classified as wind-pollinated flowers include cedar and cypress. They also cause hay fever.
In this painting, I painted a picture that is as flamboyant and gorgeous as possible, and imagined the insect-pollinated flowers that are waiting for insects at any moment.

「虫媒花」
ミクストメディア、45.5x53cm、2022
虫媒花というのは、虫に花粉を運ばせる花のことで、虫媒花の特徴として花が派手で、良い香りをさせて、蜜を出します。このような特徴があるのはもちろん蜜を引き寄せるためですね。虫媒花の方が花として進化した形だと言われています。
これに対して、風媒花と言われる花もあります。こちらは花が地味で甘い香りも蜜もなく、花粉を大量に飛ばして風にのって花粉が運ばれます。
虫媒花に分類される花は、バラとかツツジとかタンポポなど。よく目立つ花が多いです。風媒花に分類される花は、スギやヒノキなど。花粉症の原因にもなっています。
この絵では思い切り派手で華やかな絵を描いて、今にも虫を待っているという虫媒花の様子を想像して描きました。
