Hello! It's been a while since I made a male character so I did Chongyun fan art for today. Chongyun is a character from the game Genshin Impact (which I no longer play, but still loves it). I still have a list of their birthdays because I still plan on making genshin fan arts. The character designs are just chef's kiss.
For today's artwork, I tried making an art without using line arts. So straight to coloring after the sketch. I haven't really tried this before and did this on impulse. I just felt like it so I had to do it and it was worth it and a fun experience. I think I might try this process again. Aside from having fun, I think I like the style I did on this work and I think this might be the art style I was looking for. Still not sure about that though but I'm getting a little closer on knowing what I want to do with my art.

Illustration Process
Sketch
Still did the usual sketching with blue and red. For this work I tried to go on a close up art work. I still have no idea during this process that I will not do a line art. I wasn't feeling confident about my sketch here because mostly I can already envision the piece I'm going to make but this sketch doesn't give me that feeling yet. But I learned to trust the process so after this sketch I took a break to reset my mind and self so I can continue.
Base Color
After some break, I decided I would go no line art work. I did not think about how I'm going to refine the lines yet but I'll get there soon. The image below isn't exactly how the base color is. It was more messy but I fixed it during the coloring process by part. This is what it looks like after fixing the edges.
Eyes
The base color was messy and I'm still having doubts so I started on a part where I know I would enjoy the most. I was also scared starting the eyes since I'm not sure if it's the right size since I did not get to fix how it would look like in a line art. Thankfully, it turned out pretty well and I was satisfied with the result.
Face
Then after the eyes, I figured I should do the face so I could do the nose to see if it looks just right. I also did the ears and eye shading in this part as well. Aside from that I also did the lips and the tongue which is very satisfying to me as well. I was having trouble on how I should do the lips because it looks like a girl when I try to put even light red on it. I figured I should just shade the lower lip and put white and it will also look shiny.
Hair
Next is the hair, this is the actual part where I fixed the base color of the hair. I used smaller brush and painted on it while leaving it strand-like image on the hair. After that, the same process was applied to the shading and lighting so it would just appear like a block of hair. This is the part where I realized I wanna do this hair technique in my next drawings.
Hands
I just added the gloves and some shading to create depth for this part. I also added some details that I forgot while doing the sketch which is Chongyun's hand accesory.
Popsicle
Then we have the popsicle! I only used shading on the wood and the rest is in normal coloring. I added lighter color for the popsicle, and I also go lighter and lighter until I get to the top for this coloring.
Clothing
I did the clothing last for the character. I don't think I nailed it at all but it looks fine. I added the blue lines, the ribbon, and the rope. I also did minimal shading and lightings in all parts to give it a little bit of life.
Finishing
Lastly, I did a blue background in a different shade. I used a snowflakes pattern brush tool for the snowflakes, locked its layer, and then painted it white. I also overlayed a light blue color to the character so the color would look more cool(in a sense of temperature).
