Давно вже не писав в Life Stories, але заявлена тема тижня надихнула на цікаві думки - "що я можу контролювати". Так от, відпочатку війни більшість українців зіткнулася з відповіддю на це незручне питання - і виявилося, що іноді ми не можемо нічого контролювати і ні на що впливати. Те, що в мирному житті тобі здається під контролем - побут, житло, родина, робота, бізнес, відпочинок, планування подорожей, планів на майбутнє - в одну мить може бути розчавлене ворожим танком, як в прямому, так і в образному смислі.

I haven't written in Life Stories for a long time, but the declared topic of the week inspired some interesting thoughts "what can I control".
Since the beginning of the war, the majority of Ukrainians faced the answer to this uncomfortable question - sometimes we cannot control anything or influence anything. What seems to be under your control in a peaceful life - everyday life, housing, family, work, business, recreation, travel planning, plans for the future - can be crushed by an enemy tank in an instant, both literally and figuratively.
В перші дні війни ми не втікали від наступу російських військ на Київ, бо вважали, що матимемо час і ще буде можливість. Напевно так думали і більшість мешканців Бородянки, Бучі, Ірпеня, Гостомеля та інших міст, які опинилися на шляху російської орди, а згодом були розстріляні та закатовані в підвалах своїх будинків.
In the first days of the war, we did not run away from the advance of Russian troops on Kyiv, because we believed that we would have time and there would still be an opportunity. Most of the inhabitants of Borodyanka, Buchi, Irpen, Gostomel, and other cities, who found themselves on the path of the Russian horde, and were later shot and tortured in the basements of their houses, probably thought so.
Останнім часом в Україні відбувається активна дискусія, щодо ініціативи парламенту дозволити в нашій країні вільне володіння громадянами короткоствольною вогнепальною зброєю. Здавалося б, про що дискутувати? В умовах війни це рішення потрібно було ухвалити в перший день російського вторгнення в нашу країну. Але дискусія триває і досі, а рішення прогнозують ухвалити до кінця року. Слід відмітити, що в Україні дозволено володіння травматичною зброю певним категоріям громадян, а мисливською зброєю можуть володіти всі бажаючи в кого немає фізичних та соціальних протипоказань, і хто має кошти на її купівлю та утримання. Але як правило, мисливство вважається своєрідною розвагою для заможних, відповідно ця зброя сконцентрована у людей, які в перші дні війни пішли не на зустріч ворогу, а поїхали і полетіли в бік західного кордону для втечі з країни.
Recently, there has been an active discussion in Ukraine regarding the parliament's initiative to allow free possession of short-barreled firearms by citizens in our country. It would seem that what to discuss? In the conditions of war, this decision should have been made on the first day of the Russian invasion of our country. But the discussion is still ongoing, and the decision is expected to be made by the end of the year. It should be noted that in Ukraine, certain categories of citizens are allowed to own traumatic weapons, while hunting weapons can be owned by anyone who does not have physical and social contraindications, and who has the means to purchase and maintain them. But as a rule, hunting is considered a kind of entertainment for the wealthy, accordingly, these weapons are concentrated among people who, in the first days of the war, did not go to meet the enemy, but went and flew towards the western border to escape from the country.
Повернемось до нашої історії. Коли нам здавалося, що ми контролюємо ситуацію сидячі в підвалі і в будь-який момент можемо сісти в авто і втекти в безпечне місце - однієї ночі ми могли проспати цю можливість, коли прокинувшись ранком дізналися, що вночі був штурм і спроба висадки російського десанту на військовий аеродром недалеко від нашого села. І лише через пару тижнів ми побачили справжні плани росії по захопленню Києва, де наша місцевість потрапляла в зону концентрації російських військ, якщо росіянам вдалося б захопити аеродром і почати висаджувати літаками війська і техніку для атаки на Київ. Згодом весь цей військовий контенгент вимушений був колонами рухатись на Київ з Білорусі і саме він опинився в Бучі та Ірпені, де влаштував геноцид українців. Тобто одного ранку ми могли прокинутись в окупації з всім відомими наслідками, про які ще довго згадуватимуть в Україні та світі.
Let's return to our story. When it seemed to us that we were in control of the situation sitting in the basement and at any moment we could get into a car and escape to a safe place - one night we could sleep through this possibility, when we woke up in the morning and learned that during the night there had been an assault and an attempt to land a Russian landing party on military airfield not far from our village. And only a couple of weeks later, we learned about the real plans of Russia to capture Kyiv, where our area would fall into the zone of concentration of Russian troops, if the Russians managed to capture the airfield and start landing troops and equipment for an attack on Kyiv. Subsequently, this entire military contingent was forced to move in columns to Kyiv from Belarus, and it was he who ended up in Buch and Irpen, where he committed the genocide of Ukrainians. That is, one morning we could wake up under occupation with well-known consequences that will be remembered for a long time in Ukraine and the world.
В підвалі, де ми ночували в перші дні війни був цей дробовик, і хоч ми ще не уявляли справжні масштаби російської агресії - але наявність у нас зброї створювало відчуття хоч якоїсь захищенності / In the basement where we spent the night in the first days of the war, there was this shotgun, and although we had not yet imagined the true scale of Russian aggression - but the presence of weapons created a feeling of at least some security
Тепер, побачивши і зрозумівши страшну картину воєнних злочинів росіян в окупованих містах і селах я почав задаватись питанням - що я міг би контролювати в разі такої ситуації, маючи на руках зброю, нехай і короткоствольну? І зрозумів, що я міг би контролювати як померти!!! Чи захищаючи себе та родину зі зброєю в руках, можливо, ліквідувавши чи поранивши когось з ворогів - чи стоячи на колінах зі зв'язаними скотчем руками та очима отримав би кулю в потилицю, просто так, лише за те, що я українець. Моя відповідь очевидна. Мій засіб контролю - моя зброя.
Now, having seen and understood the terrible picture of Russian war crimes in occupied cities and villages, I began to wonder - what would I have control over in the event of such a situation, having a weapon in my hands, even a short-barreled? And realized that I could control how I die!!! Whether defending myself and my family with a weapon in my hands, perhaps eliminating or wounding someone from the enemy - or standing on my knees with my hands and eyes tied with tape, I would get a bullet in the back of my head, simply because I am Ukrainian. My answer is obvious. My means of control is my weapon.
А це вже в евакуації наша знайома дала потримати свою зброю і остаточно переконала нас у необхідності її мати та вміти нею володіти / And it was during the evacuation that our friend let us hold her weapon and finally convinced us of the need to have it and be able to wield it
Тому, володіння зброєю дає змогу захистити себе та свою власність не лише у мирний час, але і дає можливість захистити свій дім і свою країну від окупанта, який прийшов в твою країну відібрати у тебе все, включно з життям. І ми з дружиною для себе вирішили, що першою справою, якою займемось після офіційного дозволу від влади на володіння зброєю - це підемо на тренування по правильному поводженню зі зброєю та регулярним відвідуванням тиру. І тільки коли ворог знатиме, що на українській землі у нього стрілятимуть з кожної хати - він 100 раз подумає, чи сунутись своїми брудними чоботами та іржавими танками на чужу землю.
Therefore, owning a weapon allows you to protect yourself and your property not only in peacetime, but also allows you to protect your home and your country from the occupier who came to your country to take everything from you, including your life. And my wife and I decided for ourselves that the first thing we will do after receiving official permission from the authorities to own a weapon is to go to training on the proper handling of weapons and regular visits to the shooting range. And only when the enemy knows that on Ukrainian soil he will be shot at from every house - he will think 100 times whether to step on someone else's land with his dirty boots and rusty tanks.
