In the third game Wesley sacrifices a pawn and the exchange with 15. h5 Nxh5 16. Rxh5 for a speculative attack. His gamble paid off 25 moves later.
Wesley needs to score 1.5 points more to win the match but Nihal will try to catch up when the match resumes tomorrow.
Earlier in the semifinals, Wesley beat Hikaru Nakamura and Nihal beat Anish Giri to qualify for the finals.
