Hello to you, chess players and lovers of the game called chess,
Welcome to my blog. I talk about the games, my gaming experience while playing them, and anything game-related.
Today was the 11th round of season 1 of the HiveChess Tournament. It was well packed with decent chess players. It had a total of 32 players who participated in the event. It was not all good for me as I came in at 10th place. For now, I guess I would have to kiss my most impressive 2nd-place finish goodbye for quite some time.
I came in at 10th place with 20 points, and I assure you I collected some lethal beatings on the chessboard. I won 43% of my games while on a 100% berserk rate.
Tangibleay emerged as the winner, and I think it has to be his third time winning this event. I guess it has become a pattern for the champ. Shoutout to , you are a monster on the board filled with good plays.
At this point in the position, I knew I had run into trouble when playing against . This is the second game I am losing to him. The first one was yesterday in the Chess960 tournament, and now this one, not to mention the game I lost to him in the previous round of the Saturday HiveChess tournament. Currently, the head-to-head score is 4 - 9, meaning he is in the lead with 5 games.
For the above position, the endgame is a lost cause for me because I am down by two pawns, and not just any two pawns. The ones on the queenside flank, and they are connected passers as well. With this huge advantage, it was easy for my opponent to deal with me and get the win. Nothing I could do would win me the game.

This has to be the most silly game I played in today's tournament. Would you believe it that I was winning at the beginning of the game, with more than two pieces, but somehow I found a way to blow it all away. First, it started with one bad move, then it moved to a pattern, and next, all I was playing were a series of bad moves one after another, nonstop. When it got to the end, my opponent showed me that it did not matter what their rating was, but they knew the sequence on how to checkmate a lonely king with two pawns and a king.

I tried to put up a fight in this game, and when the time came to give the final blow, I missed it. I missed Bxf6, the winning move that opens up the white king for me to infiltrate and get the win. Instead, I play a bad move, Qe2, that does nothing and loses the advantage for me. With time pressure from berserking and my opponent being the better player, I lost in due time when I crumbled my position due to time pressure.

The tournament was not all rosy, but I sure enjoyed playing. Until next time next week Saturday. Congratulations to all the winners.
