Hey chess players and lovers of the game of chess,
The Friday Hivechess tournament was an almost-victory for me because I was in 1st position until the end, when I was overthrown by a strong 2523 player at the end of the tournament. We ended up finishing on the same point, but it was not good enough for me to win the tournament. This left me in 2nd place, which is also a pretty decent performance for today. Hopefully, tomorrow I will do better in the Saturday Hivechess Tournament.
I finished with a 2013 performance, 70% berserk rate and a 100% berserk rate, I had to go all out with the berserk; it was a long time control, 5+3, and it would take a whole lot of time before I could grab a point. It worked out for and that is how I was able to get 21 points compared to if I did not berserk.
This game was a pretty straightforward one, where I had the attack right for when I captured the b3 pawn. I knew my opponent was in some serious trouble from the moment I decided to focus on his king. The white king is in an uncomfortable spot at this point, and it is almost impossible to escape unless I play something totally different or worse. I do not have to worry at this point, as it is a checkmate in two moves. Queen takes on d5 and then pawn push next to seal the deal.
A simple queen check from the above position made the position a whole lot worse for black. This is because after the queen exchange after the queen trade on d4, the bishop on g3 is gone. Sadly, I did not see the hanging bishop after exchanging the queens. I got the advantage back while in the endgame, because black dropped a piece in a time scramble.
This has to be one of the best games I played in the tournament because of the little advantage I was able to grab. Qc4 was what changed everything for me, because of the advantage I was able to get in the entire. It was an equal position for a long time, right from the get-go. All simple exchanges the when the advantage came to grab a pawn, I found it out in time. The game ended in a time scramble ending. Luckily, I was the one who emerged victorious.
This has to be the best performance so far in the Friday Hivechess tournament. Until tomorrow.
