Well, well, well. This morning when I woke up to finding and opening my phone to look at what the Twitter army has done again, all of a sudden I saw this new logo on it
'X' marks the spot, and X seems to be the new name of the app which all of a sudden came up earlier in the week. The word was already out that the app would get a new name and a new logo. But that it would be implemented in a week already? That seems fast!
What is the rush in this and why would you need the rebrand at all?
Honestly I don't really understand the gist of the rebrand at all. Usually you feel like rebrands are for names and complanies which are not doing so good, and they need like a fresh start.
But Twitter to me seems to be doing fine. Ofcourse they laid off a ton of the staff and with the blue check mark verification paying $8 dollars a month for it, there is also a catch in there that you can monetize your content when you have enough followers and I think like 5 million views over the last month making you eligible.
Changes?
So what is going on then? Ofcourse the rumours of Elon Musk trying to get Dogecoin in there as a payment system (which is to me already enough of a reason to hold a small bag of this, because you never know what comes up with that) are helping with the hype of change.
But change into what is the question to me? The facebook rebrand into Meta literally made no sense and it feels like they have only lost users with that. They wanted threads in there, that was the new goal. But new stuff takes time and only if the public wants to follow it. I don't have the feeling facebook is gaining any followers with it.
So look at this jumpy move to rebranding Twitter to X. What will tweets be called then? The term 'Tweet' in general is such an implemented term in everyones system. Are you gonna change that to 'X-ing' a post? Admittingly, X ofcourse is a super catchy name for an app, but X-ing a post is not that catchy at all.
What is the end game of all of this? Do we think that Elon wants to bring the X stock back to the market, after he had taken it off end of last year?
Why the rebrand? What are your thoughts on all of this?
