In late April 2025, two residents in the Adelaide Hills reported the theft of nearly 200,000 litres of rainwater from their tanks overnight.
The theft likely involved a large water truck making multiple trips, as evidenced by tire tracks near the tanks. This incident occurred amid severe drought conditions in the region, with areas like Crafers West recording only 38.3mm of rainfall for the year up to the end of April.
The South Australian government has set up emergency water points to help. Police are investigating and asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.
