Well, the Japan Independent Exhibition will be held next month in March, and I will be participating as well. It's open with no jurors, and anyone can participate as long as they pay the entry fee and free exhibition. For me, it's an exhibition that marks the beginning of my career. Well-known artists like Chihiro Iwasaki have also exhibited their works.
The work at this year's exhibition which I exhibit is an abstract oil painting, and I used the oil paints I received as a keepsake from the late president of the Sakujitsu-kai, an art group I'm also a member of. When you look at the work of abstract painters, you often see complex, intertwining compositions using a wide variety of colors, but that's impossible for me, so I prefer to paint simply.
The exhibition will begin at the Japan Independent Exhibition, and will travel to the Sakujitsu-kai Exhibition and the Musashino Independent Exhibition. I'm able to do this thanks to Atelier Shirabe, who handles the loading and unloading of my work on my behalf.
The title of this abstract painting is "The Colors of the President of an Art Group." I'm truly grateful to the late president, Hatou. He sent me a canvas as a Christmas present, and when I received the Tobi Award in 2020 for my oil painting "Poor Petrushka," he called me directly to tell me the news. I still remember his voice saying, "It's Hatou."
There's still a lot I don't know about the Japanese art world, but I have many fond memories.

さて、来月3月は日本アンデパンダン展が開催されます。私も参加します。審査員なし、出品料さえ払えば誰でも参加できて自由な展覧会。私にとって原点の展覧会です。著名な人ではいわさきちひろさんも出しています。
今年出すのは油彩の抽象画で、私も会友である朔日会の故会長の油絵の具を形見分けとしてもらったのでそれらを使って、描きました。抽象画を描く人の絵を見ると、たくさんの種類の色を使って、複雑に絡ませた絵をよく見かけますが、私にはそれは無理なので、シンブルに描くことにしていますよ。
日本アンデパンダン展を皮切りに朔日会展、武蔵野アンデパンダン展と巡展します。私の作品の搬入、搬出を代行してくださるアトリエ志らべさんが一手に引き受けてくださるので、そういうことができるわけです。
今回の抽象画のタイトルは「ある画会の会長の色」です。亡き羽藤会長には本当にお世話になりました。クリスマスプレゼントとしてキャンバスを送っていただき、2020年に油彩画「哀れなペトルーシュカ」で東美賞をいただいた時は直接電話でそれを伝えていただきました。「羽藤です」と言った声を今でも覚えています。
日本の画壇についてはまだまだわからないことだらけですが、良い思い出がたくさんあります。
