It's a revenge isekai story about a bullied high school student pushed over the edge then finally shoving it up to the classmates that did him wrong. While it's still an ongoing story, the first 10 chapters are already enough to get a feel for what the ending may be like. Like most revenge stories, this follows a conventional plot line where bad things happen to people that don't deserve it and it just gets worse for them until some twist of fate they find themselves empowered to change.
I thought about giving some spoiler warnings but there's not really anything out of the ordinary about this revenge manga. If you're not into revenge stories that doesn't hold back from dark and violent themes, the shock factor may come off as novel at the start. But all revenge stories eventually follow the same pattern.
Plot
Takeshi Hirota was a bullied student for his ugly face and was brought to the verge of committing suicide. He was transported into another world before committing the deed and learned to live with orcs. Having found a new life and a place he can feel he belonged amongst the humanoid monsters, this shred of happiness was taken away from him. One day, his entire class was also transported to the same world given the title of heroes tasked to defeat the Demon King. With the Demon King eventually vanquished, the heroes are left with the powers of the Goddess. It was only a matter of time before the citizens realized that with the Demon King gone, the class that were once hailed as heroes became the kingdom's new tyrants.
If any of you previously read about my review on The Strongest Hero Desires Revenge, you'll get where this story is going minus the overt use of sexual violence. For those that haven't, here's the TL:DR version of what you're getting into:
It's a story about tragic characters who didn't deserve the shit they've been through go through the same horror just when they found some hope they could start over. It's a revenge story where the protagonist's nursed a grudge that's already deep and those wounds get poured more salt the more he discovers what his classmates have been up to. And this revenge story is even justified because now everyone outside his class is rooting for him to deliver that justice.
The mangaka definitely took notes from other popular horror manga artists, I can see the resemblance to the way Junji Ito draws sinister faces. In terms of overall art in conveying horror, violence and all things that are dark, the art hits the mark. But it's not really enough to distinguish it from other horror art styles I've seen before.
For the story, it's not really hard to empathize with the protagonist here. Even when he has no personal grudge, trying to defeat his classmates is still a just cause given how much abuse they have inflicted to the kingdom. Each chapter shows how much his classmates had a role in his misery and how much they deserve what's coming to them. It's revenge but for a just cause.
If revenge stories without holding back on the violence are your thing, then give this manga a go. Though it's still ongoing and only few translated chapters are out.
Thanks for your time.
