Isekai Shikkaku, authored by Hiroshi Noda and illustrated by Takahiro Wakamatsu (same illustrator for Love After World Domination). The alternate English title is Disqualification in Another World. I've only known about this series from the manga and it's still ongoing.
No Longer Allowed in Another World (known as Isekai Shikkaku in Japan), based on the isekai dark fantasy manga by Hiroshi Noda (story) and Takahiro Wakamatsu (art), released its first main trailer today, announcing its July 2024 premiere date in Japan alongside four main voice cast members and the first key visual. - Crunchyroll Announcement.
Plot:
Sensei, together with his lover Sacchan decides to commit suicide but ended up being transported to another world by truck-kun. Sensei starts his journey alone in a cathedral where Annete, the elf priestess that serves as a guide to other worlders, informs him of a quest to kill the demon king to save the world. The same quest given to other worlders that have been road killed by truck-kun as a rite of passage.
Each otherworlder is blessed by an ability but Annete found nothing remarkable about Sensei's skills and stats. The fact that he only has 1 HP and is currently in constant state of being poisoned from sleeping pill overdose makes him the unlikely savior they have been hoping for.
Having no interest in the task, he proceeds to come up with ways to unalive himself after his previous failed attempt then deciding to search the world to find Sacchan.
Not really a spoiler but here's general idea about what you're getting into when you start the series:
Sensei is depressed literature genius who constantly wants to kill himself but is always unsuccessful in his earnest attempts. This will be the running gag in the story as enemies will try their best to kill him while either being thwarted by Sensei's luck or friends made along the way. While being an anti-hero who marches with the beat of their own drums, his selfish actions directly result in positive outcomes for others around him.
This is still a dark fantasy anime so themes like depression and tragedy will be present but these are tamed and not as edgy as my other previous reviews shared. Despite self harm being handled casually on the story, you can occasionally forget it's a dark fantasy given the slice of comedy handed out here and there.
I don't really have high expectations when the anime adaptation gets released because I'm more fond of the visual aesthetics of manga panels. On the frame above you can see how much subtle detail can be derived story wise. The main character is not from their world and is devoid of the normal motivations that the living carries. He is black and empty yet still carries an asserting presence for those around him. All these details in just a single scene and much of it is lost due to added colors which will be expected in the anime adaptation.
I'd say this story has a different spin off to the generic overpowered protagonist we usually see under the isekai genre. But if I were just basing the story from the manga, this one kept me wanting to check for any latest chapters regularly.
Screen shots were taken from the manga.
Thanks for your time.
