Good day my fellow anime lovers!
All of us has our own favorite anime in our childhood days and we may have many favorite animes now but there are those that stood out especially when we are young. For me, one of the most memorable anime, when I was a kid, is Princess Sarah, one of the all-time favorite of kids in my country, the Philippines, it was aired in the Philippines in 1993 and re-aired several times since then.
Princess Sarah was so popular it got its own Filipino movie adaptation titled "Sarah... Ang Munting Prinsesa (also produced by the TV network that aired the anime in the Philippines).
I have watched the movie and the anime several times and I can say that it is indeed one of the greatest.
The Characters
Sarah Crewe (Princess Sarah)
Sarah/Sarah Crewe (lead role) is a girl that belongs to a wealthy family until her father died, she became an orphan, and eventually, her family became bankrupt. She then has to work on the school (as a maid) she was studying.
Becky
Becky is a close friend of Sarah while she was working at the school. If I remember it right they first met when Sarah started to work at school as a maid, Becky is also working at the school as a maid. Throughout the series, they depend on each other to fend off Miss Minchin and Lavinia.
Lottie
Lottie is the cutest character in the series. As far as I remember she is also the smallest of the students making me think that she is also the youngest. She also becomes one of the closest friends of Sarah. If I remember it right she used to call Sarah "mama Sarah" throughout the series.
Miss Minchin (Maria Minchin)
Maria is popularly known to students as Miss Minchin. She is the main antagonist of the series. All she does is make Sarah's life miserable. Miss Minchin does have a younger sister in the series named Amelia but they are polar opposite.
Lavinia
Lavinia is also one of the antagonists in the series aside from Miss Minchin. Just like Miss Minchin, all Lavinia does is to make Sarah's life miserable all throughout the series until Sarah has gained her inheritance from her father.
Ermengarde
Ermengarde as far as I remember is one of the obscure characters in the series since she has not much exposure making her character a little self-centric and seems to avoid mingling with other students. Although in the end she and Sarah also become close friends.
Peter
Peter, as far as I remember is the only male character in the series (about the same age as Sarah). Peter is also a close friend of Sarah in the series.
How the Series Goes
As far as I remember the series began when Sarah's family is wealthy and Sarah is studying in a school that only the wealthy can afford. Her father is a businessman but then died early in the series rendering their family bankrupt while Sarah ends up as a maid in the very school she was studying. There she met with Miss Minchin and Lavinia, the two antagonists that will do everything they could to make Sarah's life miserable.
Also, while working in the school she befriends Becky, Lottie, and Ermengarde including a boy from the outside named Peter.
Every day, Sarah's life is very difficult because of Miss Minchin and Lavinia. The only persons that she can depend on are Lottie, Becky, and Amelia (the younger sister of Miss Minchin).
On each day, Miss Minchin does make it sure that Sarah got the hardest work on the school. Sarah would wash the floor, wash the dishes, and even carry pale of water that is so heavy for her to carry.
But one day, the world of Miss Minchin and Lavinia turned upside down when Sarah was adopted by Tom, a friend of Sarah's father. And that was the beginning of Sarah becoming wealthy again. Sarah then left the school and inherited the remaining wealth of her father.
