One of my favorite hobbies is watching anime. I really enjoy it, although lately I've been disappointed with several series and pleasantly surprised by others that I've seen recently. One of my favorite Japanese animated series is the anime The Rise of the Shield Hero, which is currently in its fourth season, and today I want to share my opinion on this new installment. Does the anime live up to my expectations, or is it a disappointment? I'll tell you all about this and more below, so I hope you'll continue reading my review.
Before continuing with my opinion on the latest season of The Rising of the Shield Hero, it is important to talk a little about what the production is about, for those who have never heard of the anime. The anime tells the story of Naofumi, a young man who was transported back to medieval times and summoned to become one of the heroes to protect the queen. In his case, he was given the shield. This character was not highly regarded compared to the other heroes, as the shield was supposed to be one of the weakest elements, useless for offense, but the reality was quite different. Naofumi was the strongest, but best of all, he had a big heart and cared about others. In times of slavery, he would buy slaves and free them, but they always decided to stay by his side. This is one of the things I valued most about the story and what caught my attention.
As I mentioned at the beginning, I am quite a fan of watching anime, but I had been a bit out of touch lately due to time constraints, preferring to watch movies, which are shorter. However, I learned that on July 9 of this year, the fourth season of the anime premiered, with a total of 12 episodes and a running time of just over 23 minutes. The last episode aired on September 24, 2025. Hitoshi Haga was the director of the animated series, while Kinema Citrus was the studio in charge of the anime. Isekai anime are my favorites, and they are the main genre of The Rising of the Shield Hero, as the main character was transported to a parallel universe, a fantasy world like the other heroes who were summoned to defend the kingdom from the dangers of waves of new enemies.
Uno de mis pasatiempos preferidos es el ver animes, la verdad que me entretiene bastante, aunque últimamente me he decepcionado con varios y sorprendido para bien con respecto a algunas producciones que he visto en los últimos tiempos. Una de mis series japonesas animadas favoritas es el anime El ascenso del héroe del escudo, que actualmente va por su cuarta temporada y el día de hoy les quiero compartir mi opinión sobre esta nueva entrega. ¿Será que el anime cumple con mis expectativas o es una decepción? Pues esto y más se los voy a contar a continuación, así que espero que continúes con la lectura de mi reseña.
Antes de continuar con mi opinión sobre la más reciente temporada del Ascenso del héroe de escudo, es importante hablar un poco de que trata la producción, para aquellos que nunca han oído hablar del anime. El anime nos habla sobre Naofumi, un joven que fue transportado a los tiempos medievales, fue invocado con la finalidad de que se convierta en uno de los héroes, para proteger él reina, en su caso le tocó el escudo. Este personaje no era bien valorado con respecto a los demás héroes, pues el escudo se supone que era de los elementos menos fuertes, no servía para la ofensiva, pero la realidad era otra, pues Naofumi era el más fuerte, pero lo mejor de todo es que de gran corazón, se interesaba por lo demás, en tiempos de esclavos donde los compraba y los liberaba, pero siempre decidían quedarse a su lado y es una de las cuestiones que más valoré de la historia y de las cuales me quedé, atrapando mi atención.
Como les dije al principio, soy bastante fanático de ver animes, pero estaba un poco alejado, por cuestiones de tiempo, últimamente prefería ver una película, algo más corto. Pero me enteré de que el 9 de julio del presente año, se entrenó la cuarta temporada del anime, con un total de 12 capítulos y una duración de tiempo de un poco más de 23 minutos. La última emisión fue el 24 de septiembre de 2025. Hitoshi Haga fue el director de la serie animada, mientras que el Kinema Citrus fue el estudio encargado del anime. Los animes Isekai, son mis favoritos siendo el género principal de El Ascenso del héroe del escudo, pues el personaje principal fue trasladado a un universo paralelo, un mundo de fantasía al igual que los demás héroes que fueron invocados para defender al reino de los peligros de las oleadas con nuevos enemigos.
In this new season, we are introduced to Naofumi's new enemies and allies, where betrayals abound in this fourth season of The Rising of the Shield Hero. One of the positive aspects I find in this installment is its exploration of redemption, trust, and sacrifice, with a more introspective and mature tone than in previous installments prior to this fourth season. But honestly, I didn't like the plot, at least it didn't live up to my expectations. The story is boring, I want more action, and the dialogues are often excessive. The first seasons were good, especially the first and second, but as happens in many productions, as the seasons progress, the quality declines, and this disappoints me quite a bit, as this anime was one of my favorites.
I understand that there will be a fifth season of The Rise of the Shield Hero, where a substantial improvement in the story and emotional development of secondary characters is expected, which pleases me, as I like to know about more than just the main characters. We will also have new enemies and more epic battles, which still motivates me a little to continue with the story. I hope the episodes will be more interesting and on par with the first season. Sacrifice and loyalty are some of the themes that I expected to continue, at least that was the impression I got. But at least in this fourth installment and in the twelve episodes, not everything was bad, as the animation was up to par, with an excellent color palette and good visual effects during the battles. The truth is that visually, it is one of the strongest points we find in The Rise of the Shield Hero.
En esta nueva temporada, nos trae nuevos enemigos y aliados de Naofumi, donde las traiciones no falta en esta cuarta temporada del Ascenso del héroe del escudo. Una de las cosas positivas que encuentro en esta entrega explorando la redención, la confianza y el sacrificio, con un tono más introspectivo y maduro que en entregas anteriores a esta cuarta temporada. Pero sinceramente no me gustó la trama, al menos no estuvo a la altura de lo que esperaba. Una historia aburrida me falta más acción, los diálogos muchas veces son excesivos. Las primeras temporadas fuer buenas, sobre todo la una y dos, pero como ocurre en varias producciones, a medida que avanzan las temporadas, el nivel va disminuyendo y esto me decepciona bastante, ya que este anime era de mis favoritos.
Tengo entendido que habrá una quinta del Ascenso del héroe del escudo, donde se espera una mejora sustancial en la historia, desarrollo emocional de personajes secundarios, lo que me agrada, pues me gusta no solo saber de los personajes principales. También tendremos nuevos enemigos y batallas más épicas, lo que aún me motiva un poco a seguir con la historia. Espero que los capítulos sean más interesante y esté al nivel de la primera temporada. El sacrificio, la lealtad son algunas de las líneas que se esperó que se continúen, al menos fue las sensaciones que me dejó. Pero al menos en esta cuarta entrega y en los doce capítulos no todo estuvo mal, pues la animación sí que estuvo al nivel, una excelente paleta de colores, buenos efectos visuales durante las batallas, la verdad es que visualmente es uno de los puntos más fuertes que encontramos en el Ascenso del héroe del escudo.
Kevin Penkin was responsible for the soundtrack of the anime, with songs performed by MADKID and Chiai Fujikawa. I think the opening is pretty good, although I almost never watch the endings, but it's not bad at all. What do I like most about the intro music? It's more energetic, while the ending music at the end of each episode is more emotional. Anyway, with everything mentioned in the review, I can conclude that the anime is not at the level of the previous seasons. There is a certain dip in the story that I hope will be recovered in the fifth season of the anime The Rising of the Shield Hero.
Kevin Penkin fue el encargado de las compasiones de la banda sonora del anime con temas interpretados por MADKID y Chiai Fujikawa. El opening me parece bastante bueno, aunque bueno los Ending casi nunca los escudo, pero no está nada mal. ¿Qué me gusta más de la música de introducción? Un tema más energético, mientras que la del final de cada capítulo es más emocional. En fin, con todo lo mencionado en la reseña, les puedo concluir que el anime no está al nivel de las anteriores temporadas, tiene cierto bajón en la historia que espero que se recupere en la quinta temporada del anime de El Ascenso del héroe del escudo.
