Hey everyone, hope you're doing super well. This time, I want to talk about an interesting anime; today, I want to share my personal opinions on Blend S. To be honest with you, I came across this series purely by chance. I had already seen the memes, of course!, but I had never gotten around to watching it. I thought it was going to be the typical "cute girls doing cute things" anime, you know? But one day I said, "You know what, screw it, let's see what it's about," and I'm so glad I did. The initial premise is super funny and, at the same time, you just get it right away. We have our protagonist, Maika Sakuranomiya, a super sweet 16-year-old girl with a very simple dream: to get a part-time job to save up money and study abroad. The problem? Every time she tries to smile... BOOM! She gives this sadistic look that could freeze your blood. Seriously, she looks like she's going to kill you. So, of course, every job interview is a disaster and she gets rejected. It's a great running gag from the start, and you immediately feel for the poor girl who just wants to be nice but looks like she's plotting world domination.

But her luck changes when she stumbles upon a rather strange café and its even crazier manager, an Italian named Dino. The guy, instead of running away, is fascinated by her gaze and bam!, he offers her a job on the spot. This is where the charm of the whole series lies: Café Stile. It's not just any coffee shop; it's a place where the waitresses have to act out a character, you know, the anime clichés. You have the tsundere, the little sister, the big sister... and now, thanks to Maika's eyes, they have the "sadist." All the comedy stems from this, and it's brilliant. But the best part, and where the biggest laughs come from, is that in real life, all the girls are the complete opposite of the roles they play.

Hola a todos espero que estén super bien, en esta ocasión les quiero hablar de un anime interesante, hoy quiero compartirles mis opiniones personales de Blend S.. pa' serles sincero, llegué a esta serie de pura casualidad, ya había visto los memes, ¡cómo no!, pero nunca me había animado a verla.. pensé que iba a ser el típico anime de "chicas lindas haciendo cosas lindas", ¿saben? Pero un día dije: "mira, ya fue, vamos a ver qué onda", y que qué bueno que lo hice. La idea con la que arranca es súper graciosa y, a la vez, como que la entiendes al toque, tenemos a nuestra prota, Maika Sakuranomiya, una chica de 16 años súper dulce que tiene un sueño bien simple: conseguir una chambita pa' juntar plata y estudiar afuera. ¿El problema? Que cada vez que intenta sonreír... ¡PUM! Le sale una mirada de sádica que te congela la sangre.. en serio, parece que te va a matar. Entonces, claro, cada entrevista de trabajo es un desastre y la rechazan, es un chiste buenísimo desde el inicio, y al toque le agarras cariño a la pobre que solo quiere ser amable pero parece que está planeando conquistar el mundo.

Pero su suerte cambia cuando se topa con un café medio raro y con su gerente, que está más loco todavía, un italiano llamado Dino.. el tipo, en vez de salir corriendo, queda fascinado con su mirada y ¡zas!, le ofrece trabajo ahí mismo, aquí es donde está la gracia de toda la serie: el Café Stile. No es una cafetería cualquiera.. es un lugar donde las meseras tienen que actuar como un personaje, ya saben, los clichés del anime. Tienes a la tsundere, a la hermanita menor, a la hermana mayor... y ahora, gracias a los ojos de Maika, tienen a la "sádica". De ahí sale toda la comedia, y es que es genial, pero lo mejor de todo, y de donde salen las mejores carcajadas, es que en la vida real, todas las chicas son lo opuesto al papel que hacen.

And now, people, let's talk about the characters, because they are the heart, the soul of this series—they're everything! First, there's Maika. Outside of her job, she's a super polite, somewhat naive girl, one of those genuinely good people who is fascinated by anything foreign. Her personality might not have been a huge "draw," but her design was, and honestly, I get it. She's not the most complex character in the world, but she doesn't need to be. Her sincere attempts to be a good "sadistic" waitress—which almost always end with her being super polite but sounding like she's about to kill you—are hilarious. Then there's Dino, the manager. Ha! This guy is a walking anime cliché. He's a blond, blue-eyed Italian, obsessed with otaku culture, who sees Maika and boom!, falls for her in a second. His mission in life, besides managing the café, seems to be winning over Maika, but he's super clumsy and awkward at flirting. His attempts to look cool and confess his feelings always end in epic disasters.

And the rest of the Café Stile staff is just as incredible. My favorite, my personal favorite!, has to be Mafuyu Hoshikawa. Look, when you first see her, you'd swear she's a little kid. She plays the "little sister" role perfectly because she's super small. But, "even though she looks like a loli, she's not, she's actually a 20-year-old girl." She's a university student who is, in fact, the most mature and serious person in the whole darn café. She often has to put Dino and the others in their place, usually by giving them a good smack, which becomes a recurring joke that is, phew, so good. I have to agree with whoever said she has one of the best personalities; on the outside, she looks all serious, but deep down, she's super protective and a good person, especially in that episode where she helps her coworker Kaho study.

Y ahora sí, gente, hablemos de los personajes, porque ellos son el corazón, el alma de esta serie, ¡lo son todo! Primero está Maika, fuera de su trabajo, es una chica súper educada, un poco inocente, de esas buena gente que está fascinada con todo lo que sea extranjero.. su personalidad como que no "enganchaba" tanto, pero su diseño sí, y la verdad, sí lo entiendo. No es el personaje más complejo del mundo, pero es que tampoco lo necesita, sus intentos súper sinceros de ser una buena mesera "sádica" —que casi siempre terminan con ella siendo súper amable pero sonando como si te fuera a matar— son para morirse de la risa. Luego está Dino, el gerente. ¡Ja! Este tipo es un cliché de anime con patas, es un italiano rubio de ojos azules, obsesionado con la cultura otaku, que ve a Maika y ¡pum!, se clava con ella al segundo.. su misión en la vida, además de manejar el café, parece que es ganarse a Maika, pero es súper torpe y raro para ligar. Sus intentos de verse cool y declarársele siempre terminan en desastres épicos..

Y el resto del personal del Café Stile es igual de increíble.. mi favorita, ¡mi favorita personal!, tiene que ser Mafuyu Hoshikawa, a ver, cuando la ves por primera vez, juras que es una niña. Hace el papel de "hermanita menor" a la perfección porque es súper chiquita.. pero, "aunque parece una loli, no lo es, en realidad es una chica de 20 años".. es una universitaria que, de hecho, es la persona más madura y seria de todo el bendito café. Casi siempre le toca poner en su lugar a Dino y a los demás, normalmente dándole sus buenos sapes, lo que se vuelve un chiste recurrente que ¡uf!, es buenísimo.. tengo que darle la razón al que dijo que tiene de las mejores personalidades; por fuera se ve toda seria, pero en el fondo es súper protectora y buena onda, sobre todo en ese capítulo donde ayuda a su compañera Kaho a estudiar.

And then… oh, man, then Hideri Kanzaki arrives. Phew, Hideri. Here the series introduces us to what many know as a "trap," right? A guy who likes to dress as a girl. This dude's dream is to become a super famous idol, and he joins the café to gain fans and, while he's at it, get out of inheriting his family's farm! At first, when he shows up, the reaction is kind of like, "what's up with this?" But the anime handles it super well; they don't just use him for a one-off joke. The guy has incredible confidence, is a bit narcissistic, and is genuinely very, very funny. He might not be in that many episodes, but the ones he is in... phew, they're pure gold, you'll die laughing. And speaking of laughs, the humor in Blend S is exactly what you'd expect from a series like this. It's that super light, just-for-fun comedy, perfect for disconnecting and having a good laugh.

Almost all the jokes come from the interactions between the characters and that clash between who they really are and the role they have to play at the café. Every now and then, the series throws in some double-entendre jokes, a bit more suggestive. Yes, I understand why some might think that clashes with such a sweet series, but honestly, it doesn't happen that often and it actually works; it adds another layer to the comedy. And visually, what can I say! The series is gorgeous. Look, maybe it's not the most innovative animation we've ever seen, but the quality stays super high the whole time. The character designs are adorable, very cartoonish, you know? And that fits the light and comedic tone perfectly. But what blew my mind were the colors: they're super bright, super vibrant, and the line work is very solid. I mean, you'll never see the characters get weirdly distorted or the quality drop, not even in the fast-paced comedy scenes. The lighting always hits the nail on the head for the mood of the scene.

Y luego… ¡ay, gente!, luego llega Hideri Kanzaki. Uf, Hideri. Aquí la serie nos presenta a lo que muchos conocen como el "trapito", ¿no? Un morro al que le gusta vestirse de chica, el sueño de este wey es ser un ídolo súper famoso, y se une al café para ganar fans y, de paso, ¡zafarse de heredar la granja de su familia! Al principio, cuando llega, la reacción es como de "¿qué onda con esto?", pero que el anime lo maneja súper bien, no lo usan solo para el chiste y ya; el tipo tiene una seguridad brutal, es un poquito narcisista y de verdad que es muy, muy gracioso.. chance no sale en tantos capítulos, pero en los que está... ¡uff!, son oro puro, te cagas de la risa. Y hablando de risas, el humor en Blend S es justo lo que te esperas de una serie así, es esa comedia súper ligera, para pasar el rato, perfecta para desconectarte y reírte un buen.. casi todos los chistes salen de las interacciones entre los personajes y ese choque entre cómo son en realidad y el papel que tienen que actuar en el café.

De vez en cuando, la serie se avienta unos chistes de doble sentido, un poquito más picantes.. sí, entiendo por qué algunos podrían pensar que eso como que desentona en una serie tan dulce, pero siendo sinceros, no pasa tan seguido y la verdad es que funciona, le da como otra capa a la comedia. Y en lo visual, ¡qué les digo!, la serie es una chulada.. a ver, quizás no es la animación más innovadora que vimos, pero la calidad se mantiene súper alta todo el tiempo, los diseños de los personajes son adorables, muy como de caricatura, ¿saben?, y eso le queda perfecto al tono ligero y cómico. Pero lo que a mí me voló la cabeza fueron los colores: son súper brillantes, súper vivos, y los trazos son bien firmes, o sea, nunca vas a ver que los personajes se deformen raro o que la calidad baje, ni siquiera en las escenas de comedia que van a mil por hora.. la iluminación siempre le da justo al clavo con el ambiente de la escena.

And the background music is fine; it does its job, setting the perfect mood without being intrusive. BUT! BUT WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE OPENING! I read somewhere that it was "one of the best of all time." It's an absolute banger, in every sense of the word. The voice actresses even formed a group just for the song, and their chemistry is incredible. It's so catchy that it became a massive meme for a reason, right? SMILE! SWEET! SISTER! SADISTIC! SURPRISE! SERVICE! If you know it, you know it. And yeah, I saw that someone liked the ending more, but for me, that opening is legendary. Now, a heads-up: if you're looking for a super deep, evolving plot, this might not be the anime for you. This series is a "slice of life" through and through, a daily life comedy. The point is to watch the funny situations the characters get into. Don't expect the story to build up to some epic finale. And yes, let's be honest, some episodes can be a bit "meh" or you forget them after a while, it's true. Not all of them are gems. But the ones that are good, like when they go to the beach or the mountains, are so fun that they make you forget the weaker episodes. This brings me to the ending.

Or rather, the lack of one. The anime has a very open ending, or more accurately, it doesn't have an ending. It just... stops. The romance between Maika and Dino is left up in the air, as is Maika's dream of going abroad. It leaves it up to you to imagine what happened, which is typical for animes that adapt a manga that is still being published. I don't think there will be a second season given how much time has passed, so watch it for the journey, not the destination. So, what's the verdict? Is Blend S a bad series?

Not at all, people! It's a charming series, you'll die laughing, and it's super cute. If you're looking for "super complex plots and characters with a thousand layers of depth," then yeah, this anime isn't for you. But if you're like me and sometimes just want something fun, easy to watch, and that will make you burst out laughing, you have no idea how much I recommend it. It's even perfect for someone who has never watched anime before. I give Blend S a solid 7.5/10. It's not perfect, the plot is simple, and some episodes drag on, but its characters, the humor, and that special "something" it has make up for everything. Y la música de fondo está bien, cumple, te pone en el ambiente perfecto sin estorbar. ¡PERO! ¡PERO TENEMOS QUE HABLAR DEL OPENING! Por ahí leí que fue "de los mejores de todos" Es un temazo, con todas sus letras, las actrices hasta armaron un grupito solo para la rola, y la química que tienen es increíble, es tan pegajosa que se hizo un meme masivo por algo, ¿no? ¡SMILE! ¡SWEET! ¡SISTER! ¡SADISTIC! ¡SURPRISE! ¡SERVICE! Si te la sabes, te la sabes. Y sí, por ahí vi que a alguien le gustó más el ending, pero para mí, ese opening es una leyenda.. ahora, ojo. Si andan buscando una trama súper profunda que evolucione, chance este no es su anime, esta serie es un "slice of life" en toda regla, una comedia del día a día, el chiste es ver las situaciones graciosas en las que se meten los personajes. No esperen que la historia vaya construyendo algo hasta un final épico.. sí, hay que ser sinceros, algunos capítulos pueden ser medio "meh" o se te olvidan al rato, es verdad.. no todos son una joya. Pero los que sí están buenos, como cuando se van a la playa o a la montaña, son tan divertidos que hacen que se te olviden los capítulos más flojos.. esto me lleva al final.

O bueno, a la falta de uno, el anime tiene un final súper abierto, o más bien, no tiene final. Simplemente... se para.. el romance entre Maika y Dino se queda en el aire, igual que el sueño de Maika de irse al extranjero. Te deja a ti que te imagines qué pasó, algo típico de animes que adaptan un manga que todavía se está publicando.. No creo que vaya a haber segunda temporada por todo el tiempo que ha pasado, así que véanla por el viaje, no por el destino. Entonces, ¿cuál es el veredicto? ¿Blend S es una mala serie?

Para nada, gente! Es una serie encantadora, te mueres de la risa y es súper tierna.. si lo que buscan son "tramas súper complejas y personajes con mil capas de profundidad", pues sí, este anime no es para ustedes, pero si son como yo y a veces solo quieren algo divertido, fácil de ver y que los haga soltar la carcajada, no saben cuánto se las recomiendo. Hasta es perfecta para alguien que nunca ha visto anime. Yo le doy a Blend S un sólido 7.5/10. No es perfecta, la trama es sencillita y algunos capítulos se hacen largos, pero sus personajes, el humor y ese "no sé qué" que tiene lo compensan todo.. es una serie que sabe lo que es y lo hace de maravilla.. así que si se animan a verla, ya saben, me cuentan qué les pareció.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy!
