Hello everyone, my anime fanatic friends, I hope you are all doing super well, dear Hive community, this time I want to share a new review with you... we've all been there, or at least we've seen it in a thousand series: the damn Friendzone... that horrible, super uncomfortable place where feelings go to die in the slowest and most painful way possible, imagine you declare your love for your childhood best friend, and he just pats you on the back, ruffles your hair and says: "You're the best bro in the world!"... well, welcome, my friends, to the Bros Zone... that, friends, is the glorious, the incredible premise of Tomo-chan Is a Girl! Look, our protagonist, Tomo Aizawa, is a beast... seriously, a first-rate character, she's strong, she has brutal self-confidence, like she was trained in her dad's dojo since she was little, she's anything but a damsel in distress. She's a true tomboy, and the show thrives on it, which feels like a breath of fresh air... we're so used to shy, no-nonsense female leads, but Tomo's right there, ready to beat the shit out of anyone.

The problem? She's head over heels, madly in love with her best friend, Junichiro—or Jun... and he only sees her as his number one training partner, his bro, his pana... I mean, your first instinct is to scream, "HOW SLOW CAN THIS GUY BE?!" And trust me, I was there for like, five minutes, but this is where it gets good, where it makes the whole thing brilliant: Jun is no idiot. It’s not that he’s blind, he knows full well that Tomo is a girl. The real problem, the heart of it all, is that the guy is scared shitless, terrified that if he admits they’re more than just “best friends,” the whole cool friendship they have—that comfy way of greeting each other with a morning fist bump—will go up in smoke. And that, people, gives the character a depth you wouldn’t expect. He’s not just an airhead; he’s a guy paralyzed by the fear of losing the most important person in his life

Hola a todos, amigos fanáticos del anime, espero que estén super bien, querida comunidad de Hive, en esta ocasión les quiero compartir una nueva reseña.. todos hemos estado ahí, o al menos lo hemos visto en mil series: la maldita Friendzone.. ese lugar horrible, súper incómodo, donde los sentimientos van a morirse de la forma más lenta y dolorosa posible, imagínate que le declaras tu amor a tu mejor amigo de la infancia, y solo te da una palmada en la espalda, te revuelve el pelo y te dice: "¡Eres el mejor bro del mundo!".. bueno, denle la bienvenida, mis panas, a la Bros Zone.. esa, amigos, es la gloriosa, la increíble premisa de Tomo-chan Is a Girl!, miren, nuestra prota, Tomo Aizawa, es una bestia.. en serio, un personaje de primer nivel, es fuerte, tiene una seguridad en sí misma brutal, como la entrenaron en el dojo de su papá desde chiquita, es todo menos una damisela en apuros. Es una tomboy hecha y derecha, y la serie lo disfruta, cosa que se siente como aire fresco.. estamos tan acostumbrados a las protas tímidas que no rompen un plato, pero Tomo está ahí, lista para partirle la cara a quien sea.

El problema? Que está loquísima, enamoradísima de su mejor amigo, Junichiro —o Jun.. y el man solo la ve como su compa de entrenamiento número uno, su bro, su pana.. a ver, tu primer instinto es gritar: "¡¿PERO QUÉ TAN LENTO PUEDE SER ESTE TIPO?!". Y créanme, yo estuve ahí con ustedes, como por cinco minutos, pero aquí es donde la cosa se pone buena, lo que hace que todo esto sea brillante: Jun no es ningún idiota.. no es que sea ciego, él sabe perfectamente que Tomo es una chica.. el verdadero problema, el corazón de todo esto, es que el tipo está cagado de miedo, tiene pánico de que si admite que lo suyo es más que "mejores amigos", toda esa amistad tan cool que tienen —esa forma tan cómoda de saludarse con un choque de puños en la mañana— se vaya al carajo para siempre. Y eso, gente, le da una profundidad al personaje que no te esperas.. no es solo un cabeza hueca; es un chico paralizado por el miedo a perder a la persona más importante de su vida..

But let’s be completely honest, even though this is about Tomo and Jun, the show really explodes because of the supporting characters… in fact, let’s be clear for a second, the supporting characters don’t just help the story; they practically hijack the show and become the main event! And mind you, I’m not complaining at all… first, we have to bow down before the true queen, the patron saint of this anime: Carol Olston. I’m not lying when I tell you that she stole the hearts of absolutely the entire fandom… she’s this British girl with hair that looks like cotton candy, who is so, so rich and lives so happily on her own planet, that everything she does is pure comedy gold… she’s the most adorable, sweetest, and funniest character… she’s supposed to be the “dumb” one in the group, but her crazy antics are so well done and her personality is so genuine that it’s impossible not to love her.

She's a little piece of God that must be protected with one's life, then, to make the perfect contrast to how sunny Carol is, we have Misuzu Gundo... if Carol is the light, Misuzu is the darkness... a darkness that you love, super cunning, she's Tomo's other best friend, a master of strategy, super cynical and with a poker face that orchestrates like 90% of all the chaos in the series without moving a single muscle... she's the one who gives Tomo the "feminine" advice, not because she's a good friend (which deep down, deep down, she is), but because she finds it hilarious to see the chaos she creates. The chemistry between her and Carol is, without a doubt, the best thing about the series... one is pure, unfiltered innocence, and the other is the one pulling all the strings behind the scenes, their scenes together, and the whole story that builds up between them—two somewhat lonely girls who find a strange but real friendship—the truth is that sometimes it hooks you much more than the main romance.

Pero a ver, si les soy totalmente sincero, por más que esto se trate de Tomo y Jun, la serie de verdad explota gracias a los personajes secundarios.. de hecho, vamos a ser claros un segundo, los secundarios no es que solo ayuden a la historia; ¡prácticamente secuestran la serie y se convierten en el evento principal! Y ojo, que no me quejo para nada.. primero, tenemos que arrodillarnos ante la verdadera reina, la patrona de este anime: Carol Olston, no les miento cuando les digo que se robó el corazón de absolutamente todo el fandom.. es esta chica británica con un pelo que parece algodón de azúcar, que es tan, pero tan millonaria y vive tan feliz en su propio planeta, que cada cosa que hace es oro puro para la comedia.. es el personaje más adorable, más tierno y más gracioso.. supone que es la "tontita" del grupo, pero sus loqueras están tan bien hechas y su forma de ser es tan genuina que es imposible no quererla.

Es un pancito de dios que hay que proteger con la vida, luego, para hacerle el contraste perfecto a lo soleada que es Carol, tenemos a Misuzu Gundo.. si Carol es la luz, Misuzu es la oscuridad… una oscuridad que te encanta, súper astuta, es la otra mejor amiga de Tomo, una maestra de la estrategia, súper cínica y con una cara de póker que orquesta como el 90% de todo el desmadre de la serie sin mover un solo músculo.. es la que le da a Tomo los consejos "femeninos", no porque sea buena amiga (que en el fondo, muy en el fondo, sí lo es), sino porque le parece divertidísimo ver el caos que arma. La química entre ella y Carol es, sin mentirles, lo mejor de la serie.. una es pura inocencia sin filtro y la otra es la que mueve todos los hilos por detrás, sus escenas juntas y toda la historia que se va armando entre ellas —dos chicas medio solitarias que encuentran una amistad rara pero real—, la verdad es que a veces te engancha mucho más que el romance principal.

The series is hilarious, but I have to be honest, sometimes they overuse a particular joke... I mean, you know the drill: Tomo does something, June misinterprets it or panics, Tomo gets embarrassed or angry, and it all ends in a complete and utter crap... you laugh the first few times, obviously, but there comes a point where you're like, "Okay, okay, that's it again." Yeah, it also falls into those romantic comedy clichés that make you kind of... roll your eyes. Suddenly you have scenes where Tomo, the girl who could literally snap your bone, becomes the damsel in distress who needs June to save her from some weirdos... but hey, they're just minor details, really, because the comedy is fantastic. Now, on the production side, the people at Lay-duce, ugh! They really pulled out all the stops... I mean, is this animation going to blow your mind like Demon Slayer?

Well no, the animation in general is adequate, at times it feels half standard, but where it really shines is in the art style... the lines are super clean, the colors, how crazy!, vibrate on the screen, and the character designs, especially Tomo's and Carol's, are simply perfect, they put special care into Tomo's faces at key moments, you know? When she's nervous, truly happy or hurt, her face tells you the whole story... let's not even talk about the dubbing... Wow! Top notch... you can clearly see that everyone had an incredible time recording.

La serie es divertidísima, pero tengo que serles honesto, a veces abusan de un chiste en particular.. o sea, ya se la saben: Tomo hace algo, June lo malinterpreta o se paniquea, Tomo se avergüenza o se enoja y todo termina en un santo madrazo.. te ríes las primeras veces, obvio, pero llega un punto en que dices “okey, ya, otra vez lo mismo”.. sí, también cae en esos clichés de comedia romántica que te hacen como que… rodar los ojos. De repente tienes escenas donde Tomo, la chica que literal podría partirte un hueso, se convierte en la damisela en apuros que necesita que June la salve de unos tipos raros.. pero bueno, son detallitos mínimos, la verdad, porque la comedia es fantástica. Ahora, en la parte de la producción, la gente de Lay-duce, ¡uf!, se la rifaron.. a ver, ¿es una animación que te va a volar la cabeza como Demon Slayer?

Pues no, la animación en general es cumplidora, a ratos se siente medio estándar, pero donde de verdad brilla es en el estilo de arte.. las líneas están súper limpias, los colores, ¡qué locura!, vibran en la pantalla, y los diseños de personajes, sobre todo el de Tomo y el de Carol, son simplemente perfectos, le metieron un cariño especial a las caras de Tomo en los momentos clave, ¿saben? Cuando está nerviosa, feliz de verdad o dolida, su cara te cuenta toda la historia.. ni hablemos del doblaje… ¡UFF! De primer nivel.. se nota a leguas que todos se la pasaron increíble grabando.

But you know what, for me, is the secret ingredient of why this series is so good? It's that it's a near-perfect adaptation of a manga that ALREADY ENDED. And what does that mean? The pacing is insane, people... there's no filler, none of those stories that stretch like chewing gum for endless seasons. It tells you a complete and satisfying story from beginning to end in just 13 blessed episodes... in an era where 90% of romantic comedies throw you out with a "now you're going to read the manga" ending, having a real conclusion feels like a gift from the anime gods... so what's the final verdict?

A Tomo-chan Is a Girl! I give it a solid 7.5/10... it's not the masterpiece that's going to change the genre forever, but it is an incredibly funny, tender and emotional series, with a cast of characters that, I swear, takes a very simple idea, turns it on its head and on top of that accompanies it with one of the best casts of secondary characters that I've seen in a long time, if you're already fed up with the same old romantic comedies and want something that really makes you laugh and has an ending that doesn't leave you wanting more, you have to give it a chance... and well, that's all for today's review, take care of yourselves! Pero, ¿saben cuál es para mí el ingrediente secreto de por qué esta serie es tan buena? Es que es una adaptación casi perfecta de un manga que YA TERMINÓ. ¿Y eso qué significa? Que el ritmo es una locura, gente.. no hay relleno, no hay de esas historias que se estiran como chicle por temporadas interminables, te cuenta una historia completita y satisfactoria de principio a fin en solo 13 benditos episodios.. en una época donde el 90% de las comedias románticas te botan con un final tipo “ahora te vas a leer el manga”, tener una conclusión de verdad se siente como un regalo de los dioses del anime.. entonces ¿cuál es el veredicto final?

A Tomo-chan Is a Girl! yo le doy un sólido 7.5/10.. no es la obra maestra que va a cambiar el género para siempre, pero es una serie increíblemente divertida, tierna y emotiva, con un elenco de personajes que, se los juro, agarra una idea bien simple, le da la vuelta y encima la acompaña con uno de los mejores elencos de personajes secundarios que he visto en mucho tiempo, si ya están hartos de las mismas comedias románticas de siempre y quieren algo que de verdad los haga reír y que tenga un final que no los deje con las ganas, tienen que darle una oportunidad.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy, cuidense mucho!
