The Weapon of the New Era
The battle between Kenshin and Aoshi reaches its peak—but before either can land a final blow, a thunderous metallic noise shakes the ballroom. The doors burst open. There stands Takeda Kanryu, drenched in sweat and madness, dragging behind him a monstrous weapon glinting under the lamplight.
“A gift from America,” he boasts, grinning with wild eyes. “A Gatling gun—two hundred bullets a minute! The ultimate tool of progress!”
The cold barrel rotates as he pulls the trigger. The roar is deafening. Bullets tear through the walls, the floor, everything in their path. Kenshin dives aside, shielding Yahiko with his body. Aoshi, caught in the open, collapses as bullets rip through his legs.
Kanryu laughs hysterically. “Swords, honor, loyalty—it’s all worthless! This is power now!”
But his voice echoes hollowly in the hall already filling with smoke and screams.
Enemies United
As the gunfire pauses for a moment to reload, the doors behind Kanryu burst open again. The remaining members of the Oniwabanshu—Han’nya, Shikijo, and the others—rush in, joined by a bruised but unbroken Sanosuke.
“Kanryu!” Shikijo bellows, his massive frame stepping into the line of fire. “You betrayed every man who fought for you!”
Han’nya moves first, sprinting across the floor in zigzags to draw Kanryu’s aim. The others follow—former foes now fighting side by side. Even Kenshin is taken aback by the sight.
The Oniwabanshu take the bullets meant for their leader, falling one by one but never breaking formation. Aoshi, bloodied and weak, tries to rise. “You fools,” he mutters. “Why…?”
Shikijo grins through his wounds. “Because you’re our leader, remember? The Okashira.”
Their loyalty burns brighter than the gunfire itself.
The End of the Battle
Kenshin seizes the moment. With a burst of speed, he dashes through the cloud of smoke, bullets grazing his clothes but never finding flesh. He leaps forward, the sakabato flashing once—shattering the Gatling gun’s mechanism. The weapon dies in a sputter of metal and sparks.
Kanryu falls to his knees, trembling, clutching at the ruined machine. “My power! My empire!”
Kenshin stands over him, his voice calm yet cold. “Your empire was built on pain. It was always doomed to collapse.”
Around them, the survivors of both sides gather—Kenshin, Sanosuke, Yahiko, the wounded Aoshi, and the remnants of the Oniwabanshu. For the first time, there’s silence. The war between them ends not with victory, but with understanding: the old ways and the new world have both bled enough.
Final Thoughts
Battle’s End is not just the conclusion of a fight—it’s the collapse of two eras. The Gatling gun, a symbol of modern brutality, cuts down ideals as easily as flesh, showing the cost of progress without humanity.
Kenshin and the Oniwabanshu, enemies moments before, stand together against a weapon that knows neither loyalty nor honor. Aoshi’s wounded pride meets the loyalty of his men, and in that moment, he understands: true strength is not in domination, but in those who stand beside you.
As the smoke clears, the swords of the old world fall silent—and the dawn of something new begins.
