After talking about Maomao, I could not leave out another of the characters that has generated the most intrigue and debate: Jinshi, the enigmatic high-ranking official who seems to have everything and, at the same time, hides much more than he lets on. If Maomao is a mystery because of his brilliant mind, Jinshi is a mystery because of his layers and contradictions.
Después de hablar de Maomao, no podía dejar por fuera a otro de los personajes que más intriga y debate ha generado: Jinshi, el enigmático funcionario de alto rango que parece tenerlo todo y, al mismo tiempo, esconde mucho más de lo que deja ver. In a previous post I talked about Maomao and his nomination for Best Main Character, so I couldn't help but share my analysis of Jinshi, who I'm sure is loved by some and not so much by others, and who was also nominated in the Crunchyroll awards for Best Supporting Character. And I say he can be loved or hated because I know there are those who feel that his development within the anime somehow overshadows that of Maomao. Personally, I don't think that's the case.

Jinshi is a man trapped in a destiny he did not choose, and we discover this little by little as the story progresses. But he does not reject it just out of rebellion: deep down, he himself doubts his identity, his capabilities and whether he is ready to assume the responsibility that fate seems to have assigned him. Despite this, he proves to be a highly intelligent man, capable of manipulating information within the Inner Palace to maintain order and protect those around him.
His appearance makes him the target of gossip, jealousy and desire, but very few truly know him. In that sense, he shares something with Maomao: they both wear masks to survive in the palace environment. He hides his true identity; she, his intelligence.
Jinshi es un hombre atrapado en un destino que no eligió, y eso lo vamos descubriendo poco a poco, a medida que avanza la historia. One of the things I like most about Jinshi is how he breaks the mold of the typical anime prince. He's not arrogant by nature; rather, he's a man who lives trapped in a role he never chose. Yes, he has power, but he's also emotionally charged: he constantly feels that no one sees him for who he really is. And in Maomao he finds someone different, who is not dazzled by either his beauty or his status.
And yes, I admit it: part of Jinshi's charm also lies in that touch of comedy he brings to the anime. Her reactions to Maomao's rejections, her disguised jealousy, her attempts to keep her composure while everything crumbles inside her is simply delightful to watch!
Una de las cosas que más me gusta de Jinshi es cómo rompe con el molde del típico príncipe de anime. No es arrogante por naturaleza; más bien, es un hombre que vive atrapado en un rol que jamás eligió. Sí, tiene poder, pero también una gran carga emocional: constantemente siente que nadie lo ve como realmente es. Y en Maomao encuentra a alguien diferente, que no se deja deslumbrar ni por su belleza ni por su estatus.

As the story progresses, the layers he has built to protect his identity and hide his emotional wounds begin to crumble, especially in his interaction with Maomao. Jinshi ceases to be the handsome one in the anime and becomes a deep character, caught between duty and the desire to lead a normal life, away from the intrigues of the palace.
Jinshi is a necessary character for this plot. And so, too, is he for Maomao. I am convinced that they both need each other, and that, with time, we will see him more and more as a complex figure, beyond the frivolous image he sometimes conveys in these first arcs.
