In my history of watching animes, there are countless anime series that follows the same underdog storyline where everytime we get to see the main character rises from the bottom to claim respect and strength. But "Viral Hit" brings something reviving and raw to the table. Well, it is not about any kind of magic, superpower or any exaggerated martial arts but it is truly grounded in reality, it touches the real struggles like poverty, bullying, and the impact of social media in our daily life. Because of the realism this anime hit me so hard. Season 1 is really good and I think it’s one of the most underrated gems of recent years.
If you ever have felt powerless or got laughed at, or disrespected by others then "Viral Hit" will definitely strike a chord. This is not only about fighting but also about courage, survival and standing straight in the world where countless people will try to push you down. What I like the most is the combination of authentic martial arts with the modern “streaming culture” which is really genius. Let me show you guys why this anime is so worth watching.
The Story: From Loser to Fighter
In the beginning of the story is Hobin Yoo, is a high school student who constantly got bullied and looked down by his classmates. But his life takes a sharp turn when he unintentionally got into the world of livestreaming fights. He had no real strength or any kind of popularity, also no support and he seems like the last person who would succeed in this kind of arena. But gradually, he began to learn how to fight back through someone's video online. A strange looking guy with a fit body wears the head of a chicken, he teaches the true fighting skills and has no views but Yoo Hobin watches him regularly to learn fighting. Yoo Hobin often challenges people by learning through the videos and they actually works.
What makes "Viral Hit" stand out the most that we don't get to see Hobin suddenly gaining some physical strength without doing anything. Instead, he does training and learns fighting techniques through realistic means. He always studies martial arts through the videos and trains his body. Also learns new strategies to fight off the opponents who are much stronger than him. The anime makes you root for Hobin, because of his struggles and growth.
I find this underdog narrative very inspiring. This anime is a reminder that even if you're weak but still you can rise in any circumstances if once you're determined enough.

Characters That Stay With You
To me the characters are the heart of any anime. I have seen that "Viral Hit" has nailed this part perfectly. Each character feels like someone that you have actually met in real life, these characters has emotions of fears, flaws, and unique motivations.
Hobin Yoo (MC): At first Hobin is someone who is skinny, awkward, often faces humiliation. But what makes him special is his resilience not his fists. Whenever he got knocked down by his opponents he never decided to stay down. He reminds me of a person who does not know how or when to quit. Seeing him grow with real skills is giving fulfilment.
Jihyeok Woo: He’s the one who had dragged Hobin. In the beginning he felt like a troublemaker, but later I saw that he’s more layered than that. He is not any antagonist but a reckless, funny and a loyal friend in his own weird way.
Bomi: She is such a sweetheart and a bright spot in Hobin’s gloomy world. She's some who actually inspires Hobin and believes in him when no one else does. She is the one who gave encouragement to Hobin to push himself forward when things felt impossible.
Opponents & Rivals: Every opponent Hobin has faced are not just a random “villain.” They are very different from each other and each one of them has their own fighting styles and reasons for fighting. They are a complications cruel, honorable, and broken inside. These encounters makes the audience feel the depth of the story than just a string of fights.
My Favorite Character
Out of everyone, Hobin is my favorite not because he’s the hero of the anime, but because of how I find him relatable with me. Hobin is just like me who is just a regular kid, he is insecure and struggling to make a livelihood for his mom. After watching his transformation gradually it makes his journey one of the most inspiring. But if it was done overnight than I would be not able to relate with this because that would seen unrealistic.
Well, the most relaxing moment was when he realizes that he can actually win if he keeps learning and it is a reminder for the audience that growth does not come from shortcuts, but from persistence.
Animation and Fighting Style – A Different Kind of Realism
One of the best thing about Viral Hit is how they approach the fight animation. There's no flashy power-ups and explosions. The fights are brutally realistic. Like the punches hurt like real life and kick knocks the wind out of you. The animators has truly paid attention to how actual martial arts fights look in motion. For example boxing stances are drawn correctly like the fighters always keeping their guard up. On the other hand Judo is actually a follow through with proper leverage. Whenever Hobin lands a punch you can already feel the weight of his effort. Also when he gets hit in return you wince because that definitely looks very painful. Also, the fighting scenes do not drag on unnecessarily, either they are intense and quick or it looks believable.
The animation always remains cleand and sharp. I admire the way they always show livestreaming aspect, there are comments popping up on screen as if it's real. It adds a modern vibe that fits perfectly with the theme of the today's internet culture.
The anime doesn’t deny the fact away that internet is not only toxic but also supportive. I like that Hobin refused to stay weak, he started to work on himself for better. This anime is more than just a fighting show. If you are tired of the same recycled tropes in anime, then "Viral Hit" is a is something unique and new for you. It’s raw and emotional. Just like me you will start cheering for Hobin and also laughing at the friendship between Hobin and Jihyeok.
Final Thoughts
Viral Hit (Season 1) is about courage, and the power of growth. The characters are way too relatable and the realistic fighting styles are mind blowing and also the sharp animation is insanely good. If you are looking for an anime that not only gives inspiration but also goves entertainment then give "Viral Hit" a chance. Trust me you won’t regret it.
