Como dije antes la historia es relativamente sencilla, pero eso no le quita lo maravilloso. La historia gira entorno a Taki Tachibana y Mitsuha Miyamizu, ambos estudiantes de secundaria que viven en ciudades distintas, Taki de Tokio y Mitsuha de un pueblo llamado Itomori, los cuales no se conocen pero cada vez que duermen intercambian de cuerpos. Aunque Mitsuha ayuda a Taki a conquistar a una compañera, nuestros protagonistas al parecer están destinados mediante el famoso hilo rojo. Vemos la cotidianidad de ambos personajes mientras van intercambiando su cuerpo, teniendo situaciones bastante peculiares gracias a esta manifestación. Los amigos se preocupan por ellos ya que algunos días actúan de una manera y otro día, de distinta forma, cosa que sucesos que los protagonistas no recuerdan en totalidad. Al darse cuenta de que no son sueños y que en serio cambian de cuerpo proceden a dejarse pequeños recordatorios de lo que sucede y así no alterar drásticamente el estilo de vida del otro, aunque Misuha hace que Taki sea más dulce y Taki hace que Mitsuha se vea más ruda e incluso llegue a ser popular. El intercambio va bien hasta que un día Taki se da cuenta que ya no cambiaron de cuerpos.

As I said before, the story is relatively simple, but that doesn't take away from its awesomeness. The story revolves around Taki Tachibana and Mitsuha Miyamizu, both high school students who live in different cities, Taki from Tokyo and Mitsuha from a little town called Itomori, both of them don't know each other but every time they sleep they exchange bodies. Although Mitsuha helps Taki to conquer a classmate, our protagonists seem to be destined by the famous red thread. We see the everyday life of both characters as they exchange their bodies, having quite peculiar situations thanks to this manifestation. Their friends worry about them because some days they act in one way and another day, in a different way, events that the protagonists do not remember in their entirety. Realizing that these are not dreams and that they really do change their bodies, they proceed to leave each other little reminders of what is happening so as not to drastically alter each other's lifestyles, although Misuha makes Taki sweeter and Taki makes Mitsuha look tougher and even becomes popular. The exchange goes well until one day Taki realizes that they no longer switched bodies.

A partir de aquí Taki comienza a dibujar el pueblo de Itomori en busca de respuestas, ubica el lugar y con dos amigos se enfrasca en un viaje en tren hacia el pueblo y en el camino se detienen en un café, donde dos personas que trabajan ahí les cuentan sobre el cometa que destruyó el pueblo tres años atrás. Taki por sí mismo descubre lo que sucedió, Mitsuha murió tres años atras en un festival viendo el cometa y ambos en la misma línea temporal, por lo que procede a ir al santurio donde él en el cuerpo de Mitsuha había dejado un alcohol especial como ofrenda familiar. Esto lo conecta con Mitsuha otra vez para así advertir sobre lo que sucederá el día del cometa, a lo que él en el cuerpo de la chica procede a buscar a Mitsuha. Ambos se encuentran en el santuario justo en el crepúsculo, cada quien en su respectivo cuerpo, se ven las caras y por fin se conocen, ambos deciden dejar sus nombres en cada mano, pero el sol termina poniéndose y Mitsuha no termina escribiendo su nombre, Taki dice que no la olvidará pero luego de la nada olvida porque está ahí. Mitsuha intenta huir y advertir del cometa, pero olvida porque lo está haciendo y olvida a Taki, por lo que procede a ver lo que tenía en su mano y era un "Te amo" escrito por Taki.

From here Taki begins to draw the town of Itomori in search of answers, he locates the place and with two friends embarks on a train ride to the town and on the way they stop at a cafe, where two people who work there tell them about the comet that destroyed the town three years ago. Taki himself discovers what happened, Mitsuha died three years earlier at a festival watching the comet and both in the same timeline, so he proceeds to go to the shrine where he in Mitsuha's body had left a special alcohol as a family offering. This connects him with Mitsuha again so as to warn about what will happen on the day of the comet, to which he in the girl's body proceeds to look for Mitsuha. They both meet at the shrine just at twilight, each in their respective bodies, they see each other's faces and finally meet, both decide to leave their names on each hand, but the sun ends up setting and Mitsuha doesn't end up writing her name, Taki says he won't forget her but then out of nowhere forgets why she is there. Mitsuha tries to run away and warn of the comet, but forgets why she is doing it and forgets Taki, so she proceeds to see what she had in her hand and it was an "I love you" written by Taki.

Sucede la evacuación del pueblo y el cometa impacta destruyendo todo. Luego vemos a Taki sin recuerdos despertando en su cuarto, con una sensación extraña dentro de sí. Cinco años después vemos a Taki intentar buscar un trabajo pero no tiene éxito, se da cuenta que la gente de Itodori sobrevivió al desastre y recuerda junto a su amiga y antigua enamorada cuando viajaron a ese pueblo, solo que Taki no recuerda el por qué. Sin embargo el chico siente que busca algo o a alguien, como si le hubiera perdido y de repente se encuentra con Mitsuha en el tren, y algo dentro de ellos los obliga a seguirse hasta encontrarse en unas escaleras, ambos se topan y proceden a preguntar sus nombres y yo precedo a llorar mucho mientras escribo esto.

The town is evacuated and the comet hits and destroys everything. Then we see Taki with no memories waking up in his room, with a strange feeling inside him. Five years later we see Taki trying to find a job but is unsuccessful, he realizes that the people of Itodori survived the disaster and remembers with his friend and former crush when they traveled to that town, only Taki doesn't remember why. However the boy feels that he is looking for something or someone, as if he had lost him and suddenly he meets Mitsuha on the train, and something inside them forces them to follow each other until they meet at some stairs, they both bump into each other and proceed to ask their names and I precede to cry a lot as I write this.
