Aunque dura menos de una hora, Hotarubi no Mori e consigue crear una conexión emocional fuerte con el espectador. No necesita largas escenas o tramas complejas para hacernos sentir. En ese breve tiempo, logra contar una historia completa y desgarradora.
La química entre los dos protagonistas es dulce y genuina. El desarrollo de su relación, desde una amistad infantil hasta un amor silencioso y contenido, está tan bien narrado que no necesitas palabras para entender lo que sienten. Cada mirada, gesto y sonrisa habla por sí sola.
La animación es hermosa y delicada, con una paleta de colores suaves que acompañan perfectamente el tono melancólico de la película. El bosque está lleno de detalles que lo hacen parecer un lugar místico, pero a la vez real, y los diseños de los espíritus añaden un toque de fantasía que no rompe la atmósfera, sino que la enriquece.

Quizás lo único que podría "no gustar" es que la película es muy corta. Al terminar, uno se queda con ganas de ver más de Hotaru y Gin, conocer más de sus vidas y del mundo espiritual que los rodea.
Sin embargo, su brevedad también es su fuerza, porque logra concentrar una gran carga emocional sin necesidad de alargar la historia.
Algunas personas podrían sentirse curiosas por saber más sobre el bosque, los espíritus y por qué Gin tiene esa maldición. La película no lo explica a fondo, porque prefiere centrarse en la relación de los protagonistas. Esto puede dejar a algunos con preguntas sin respuesta, aunque no afecta al núcleo emocional de la trama.
Perhaps the only thing I might not like is that the film is very short. By the end, one is left wanting to see more of Hotaru and Gin, to learn more about their lives and the spiritual world that surrounds them.
