¡Hola Comunidad de amantes del anime y el manga!
Uno de los proyectos con los que estoy trabajando es un fancomic basado en el anime "Daiku Maryu Gaiking" también conocido como "El Gladiador".
Este fancomic, el cual llamé "El Décimo Tripulante" trata sobre las aventuras de Ylia y el Capitán Pete Richardson, la pareja OCxCanon que cree para las actividades del grupo de Selfshipping.
Esta historia es bastante experimental para mí. En parte, para practicar narrativa de romance la cual estoy uniendo con acción y humor, ya que en esos últimos temas se me hace más fácil crear historias.
También esta historia me sirve para practicar el estilo retro anime.
Estoy poniendo mucha atención a los escenarios para captar esa visión futurista que tenía el anime retro donde se podía ver cómo envisionaban el futuro con robots y armas sofisticadas mientras mantenía ese aire muy distintivo de la época. Es algo que me fascina del anime retro.
En cuanto a la técnica para el manga, experimenté en esta primera página darle un poco el aspecto del manga retro también. Por lo general, trabajo mis mangas a escala de grises por lo que, al acercarse la imagen en médio digital, no se ven los puntos que conforman la tonalidad. Acá experimenté usando la trama de puntos.
Traté de no usar tantas tramas ya que en el manga clásico, las viñetas eran bastante simples y la mayoría, eran sólo líneas. Las tonalidades y sombras se hacían a mano con técnicas como líneas cruzadas en ángulo o varias líneas superpuestas hasta lograr las escalas de grises.
En la siguiente página quiero experimentar con escala de grises y comparar cuál se ajustaría más a la historia.
Aún hay personajes que se me hacen un poco dificil dibujar como es el caso de Fan-Li, quien tiene rostro bastante alargado y ese tipo de personajes me lleva más tiempo lograr dibujarlos.
Estoy trabajando un poco lento en este proyecto, sin embargo no tengo apuro. Realmente quiero dedicarle tiempo para aprender mucho del anime retro y usarlo como ejercicio así que quiero disfrutar el proceso en lugar de estresarme por los resultados.

Hello community of anime and manga lovers!
One of the projects I’m working on is a fan comic based on the anime Daiku Maryu Gaiking, also known as The Gladiator.
This fan comic, which I titled “The Tenth Crew Member,” follows the adventures of Ylia and Captain Pete Richardson, an OC × Canon pair I created for the group’s self‑shipping activities.
The story is quite experimental for me. I’m using it to practice romance storytelling while blending action and humor, since those genres come more naturally to me.
It also serves as a way to practice the retro‑anime style.
I’m paying close attention to the settings to capture that futuristic vision of retro anime, where the future was imagined with robots and sophisticated weapons, all while preserving the distinctive atmosphere of the era. That aspect of retro anime fascinates me.
Regarding manga technique, I experimented on this first page to give it a retro‑manga feel as well. I usually draw my manga in grayscale, so when the image is viewed digitally at a close zoom the tonal dots aren’t visible. Here I tried using a dot screen (texture).
I tried not to use too many screens because classic manga panels were quite simple, mostly just lines. Tones and shadows were created manually with techniques like cross‑hatching at angles or multiple overlapping lines to achieve grayscale values.
On the next page I want to experiment with grayscale and see which approach fits the story best.
There are still some characters that are a bit challenging to draw, such as Fan‑Li, whose face is very elongated; characters like that take me longer to render.
I’m working a bit slowly on this project, but I’m not in a rush. I really want to devote time to learning a lot from retro anime and use it as an exercise, so I want to enjoy the process rather than stress over the results.
