I have seen many anime in my life, with different stories, visuals, plot twists. But there are some anime that really move my mind and quietly take a place in my heart. One such experience was watching Teogonia Season 1. I first started this anime with some curiosity, because its name is different from Teogonia, which refers to the song of the origin of Greek mythology. But when I saw that the story actually progresses through the brutal struggle for human survival, past memories, and a different level of God, my mind was stuck.
The story starts in a very simple way. Kai, a village boy, whose life is spent protecting his loved ones. He is not a Guardian Bearer, so even though he is on the front lines of the war, his life seems to have little value. But in a deadly battle, he is injured and suddenly a mysterious memory of a previous life or past life awakens within him. This is where his journey of transformation begins. This is the moment where I felt that this anime is not just suspense or action, but a huge philosophy of self-discovery.
Teogonia shows a world where humans and demi-humans are engaged in a perpetual war. Every human lives in an infinite fear of never knowing when they will die. Guardian Bearers are the class who have god-like powers, and their training, weapons, lifestyle, everything is different.
This anime suddenly awakens the questions within me. Is my current life only mine, or is my past somehow determining my future? The change that comes within Kai is not just external, a deep revolution takes place within his soul.
My favorite part was the change in Kai's memory. When he regains knowledge of his old life where he was an ordinary person in the modern world, this dual existence shows him a new way to live. These parts felt very real to me. It seems that each of us, like Kai, has past experiences hidden somewhere inside us, which if we know, can change our thoughts, survival, and love.
Apart from Kai, the other characters are also worth remembering. A female character named Jose, whose personality and spiritual strength are great. She becomes a reflection of courage and compassion in Kai's life. I also liked seeing an enemy character named Rigdaros. He is not just a "villain", he has his own ideology, his reason for war. Such deep characterization is not seen in many anime.
This anime is not just a war story. There is a symbolic analysis of the concept of God, the fate of the soul, social class, death-life cycle, etc. For example, in the introduction episode of Arbitration God (S1E3), a deep question is raised: is there really a God who is impartial? I watched this episode twice in a row, because the words have entered my mind.
Watching Kai's Protect Kanae (S1E12) episode, it seemed like this was not just his fulfillment as a character, but the awakening of his soul.Teogonia is not just an anime for me, it's a kind of mirror where I saw the reflection of my own fears, struggles, past, and future.Like Kai, I often wonder who I was, where I was going? This anime doesn't answer those questions, but it shows the way, which is very valuable.
After watching this anime, I felt that good things need to be seen not only with the eyes but also with the heart.
