Hello to all members of this community, anime and art lovers! I hope this new year is full of success and our favorite series 😌 As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm on "vacation," and although I can't completely stop posting on my blog (it's something I really enjoy, and I feel like if I go too many days without writing, everything just piles up 😅), I've decided to simply take things easy and write when the day's situation calls for it. I've also taken the opportunity to visit some friends, go for walks, and of course, watch some anime, something I rarely do because of my other activities. Regarding the latter, my boyfriend and I are watching the latest season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, which we had stopped watching over a year ago. With the upcoming premiere of Part 7, we decided to rewatch Part 6 from the beginning and we're almost finished! The next one I'd like to watch is the latest Beastars! It came out months ago and I've already encountered a ton of spoilers, haha.
Anyway, getting back to today's post, I'd like to show you the process of creating my latest watercolor and colored pencil drawing, based on a beautiful illustration by the manga artist Ai Yazawa (creator of NANA), which I found on a Facebook page I follow. I'm not sure who the character is; at first, I thought it was Mikako, the protagonist of the manga/anime Gokinjo Monogatari, but she has a mole on her face, and some of Yazawa's characters look similar, so I'm not sure 😅 Anyway, I absolutely loved the girl's defiant expression and the colors.
My motivation for creating this illustration was to practice in a traditional style. I'm one of those people who wants to improve their drawing skills, but I only dedicate a little time to practicing each week (and we all know that's not enough to make much progress at anything 😆). Even so, I don't put pressure on myself and have decided to improve at my own pace. I have some used watercolors that were given to me, but the quality is superior to the ones I had, so I wanted to check the paint tones.
I used my old sketchbook, whose paper isn't specifically for watercolors, but I still use it for that purpose because of its porous surface and sepia tone. I drew the character with a mechanical pencil and started painting with yellow, although I almost immediately switched to green because I was intrigued by that watercolor, since it's my favorite color 💚
Something else that pleased me was that among the watercolor shades was a light skin tone. Using it, I was fascinated (I'd like to practice coloring different skin tones). I'm not an expert at using watercolors, but at least I now have some control to avoid ruining this paper by being careless with the water, haha. Once the first layer was dry, I started to define the intensity of the colors a bit more, like the red. I love how red looks! And for outlining, I used brown. As for the background, I mixed some yellow, blue, and black.
Without a doubt, my best ally is the colored pencil. I feel I'm still not entirely satisfied with my watercolor technique, and when I'm at a loss, I resort to them to salvage what little illustration I have left, haha. But I love how the colored pencils give the drawing a more defined effect. As for the highlights, I used white acrylic paint.
I tried to draw the character's tears (it seems that despite her feelings, she wants to appear strong), but I don't think I quite nailed the tear effect, haha. Even so, I'm happy with the final result because, even though I don't dedicate as much time to drawing as I'd like, I feel like I'm slowly improving my coloring, and that makes me happy ✨

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad, amantes del anime y del arte! Espero que éste nuevo año que está comenzando, esté lleno de éxitos y de nuestras series favoritas 😌 Como he comentado en posts anteriores, me encuentro de "vacaciones" y aunque no puedo dejar de lado el publicar en mi blog (es una actividad que me gusta mucho y siento que si paso muchos días sin escribir, todo se me termina acumulando 😅), he decidido simplemente tomarme las cosas con calma y escribir cuando la situación del día lo amerite, así como también he aprovechado de visitar a algunos amigos, pasear y por supuesto, mirar algo de anime, cosa que hago muy poco por mis actividades. En cuanto a esto último, estoy viendo junto a mi novio la última temporada de Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, la cual habíamos paralizado hace más de un año y con el estreno cercano de la parte 7, decidimos ver la parte 6 desde el comienzo y ya estamos por terminarla ¡La siguiente que quisiera ver es lo más reciente de Beastars!, salió hace meses y me he tragado una pila de spoilers jaja.
Pero bueno, volviendo a la publicación de hoy, me gustaría mostrarles el proceso de elaboración de mi último dibujo en acuarelas y crayones de madera, basado en una hermosa ilustración de la manga Ai Yazawa (creadora de NANA), que hallé en una página de Facebook que sigo. No estoy segura de quién es el personaje, al principio pensé que se trataba de Mikako, la protagonista del manga/anime de Gokinjo Monogatari, pero tiene un lunar en el rostro y algunos personajes de Yazawa se parecen entre sí, de modo que no estoy segura 😅 dejando eso de lado, me encantó un montón la expresión desafiante de la chica así como los colores.
Mi motivación para hacer esta ilustracion, fue practicar en estilo tradicional. Soy de las personas que desea mejorar en el dibujo, pero que le dedica a la práctica un ratito a la semana (y sabemos que eso no es suficiente para avanzar demasiado en nada 😆), aún así, no me presiono y he decidido mejorar a mi ritmo. Tengo unas acuarelas usadas que me regalaron, pero la calidad es superior a las que tenía, por lo que deseaba verificar el tono de los pinturas.
Utilicé mi viejo block de dibujo, cuyo papel no es especialmente para acuarelas, pero que igual sigo utilizando en ello por su superficie porosa y color sepia. Realicé el dibujo del personaje con portaminas y comencé a pintar con los colores amarillos, aunque casi inmediatemente me fui con el color verde, porque estaba intrigada con esa acuarela, ya que se trata de mi color favorito 💚
Algo que también me alegró, fue que entre los tonos de las acuarelas, se encuentra el color piel claro, al usarlo, me fascinó (me gustaría practicar el coloreado de distintos tonos de piel). No soy experta en la utilización de acuarelas, pero al menos ya tengo un control para evitar estropear éste papel por mi imprudencia con el uso del agua jaja una vez que estuvo seca la primera capa, comencé a definir un poco más la intensidad de los colores, como el rojo ¡Amo cómo se ve el rojo! Y para deliear, usé el marrón. En cuanto al fondo, mezclé algo de amarillo, azul y negro.
Sin lugar a dudas, el mejor aliado que encuentro, son los crayones de madera. Siento que aún no me encuentro del todo satisfecha con mi manejo de las acuarelas y cuando ya no sé que hacer, acudo a ellos para salvar lo que tengo de la ilustración jaja pero me encanta como los crayones de madera le otorgan al dibujo un efecto más definido. En cuanto a las luces, utilicé pintura acrílica de color blanco.
Traté de hacer las lágrimas que tenía el personaje (parece que a pesar de sus sentimientos, desea mostrarse como alguien fuerte), pero no creo que haya logrado del todo el efecto de lágrimas jaja aún así, estoy satisfecha con el resultado final, porque, a pesar de que no le dedico el tiempo que quisiera a dibujar, siento que poco a poco estoy mejorando mi coloreado y eso me alegra ✨
