Good morning, afternoon or evening community of The Anime Realm, today I come to bring you my first review to a manga. I decided to read this manga at a time when I was bored and with nothing to do, to which I said: why not? let's give it a try. I had previously heard its name from people who had said that its ending was quite bad, I was intrigued to know if it was true or not. I dislike works that end with an ending that is not to my liking, but I can say with this work that much of public opinion is wrong. Although perhaps they are referring to the anime that this one has, which is of mediocre quality, I do not know. What I do know is that the manga seinen GANTZ, released in the 2000's, by Hiroya Oku is a total work of art. By the way, what a great title I sent myself, right? It sums up this manga perfectly.
Buenos dÃas, tardes o noches comunidad de The Anime Realm, hoy les vengo a traer mi primera reseña a un manga. Este manga decidà leerlo en un momento en que me encontraba aburrido y sin nada que hacer, a lo que dije: ¿por qué no? vamos a darle una oportunidad. Con anterioridad habÃa escuchado su nombre por gente que habÃa dicho que su final era bastante malo, tenÃa intriga por saber si era cierto o no. A mà me desagrada las obras que terminan con un final que no es de mi agrado, pero puedo afirmar con esta obra que gran parte de la opinión pública está errada. Aunque quizás puede que se refieran al anime que este tiene, que es de calidad mediocre, no lo sé. Lo que sà sé, es que el manga seinen de GANTZ, salido en los años 2000, de la mano de Hiroya Oku es una total obra de arte. Por cierto, qué buen tÃtulo me mandé, ¿no? Resume a la perfección a este manga.
GANTZ tells us the story of Kurono Kei, an apathetic boy with an apparent lack of empathy who is forced to help a homeless man when his childhood friend, whom he had not seen in a long time, Masaru Kato asks him to help him. After helping get the homeless man off the train tracks, Kei and Kato don't have enough time to get out of there, so they both end up getting run over by the train, or so they think. When they "die", they both appear in a room from which they cannot get out, and with the big shock that there is a giant black sphere in the middle of the room, they also meet other people who apparently share their same fate. The black sphere responds under the name of GANTZ, all have died and if they want to stay alive they will have to survive the missions that will be imposed on them, the great majority consists of eliminating a target, which will be extraterrestrials. At the end of the mission, they will be able to leave the room to continue with their normal life.
GANTZ nos narra la historia de Kurono Kei, un chico apático y con un aparente falta de empatÃa que se ve obligado a ayudar a un vagabundo cuando su amigo de la infancia, a quien no habÃa visto en mucho tiempo, Masaru Kato le pide que le ayude. Después de ayudar a sacar al vagabundo de las vÃas del tren, Kei y Kato no tienen el suficiente tiempo para salir de allÃ, por lo que ambos terminan muriendo arrollados por el tren, o eso es lo que creen. Al "morir", los dos aparecen en una habitación de la cual no pueden salir, y con el gran llamativo de que hay una esfera gigante negra en medio de la habitación, también encontrándose con otras personas que aparentemente comparten su mismo destino. La esfera negra responde bajo el nombre de GANTZ, todos han muerto y si quieren mantenerse con vida deberán sobrevivir a las misiones que les impondrán, la gran mayorÃa consisten en eliminar a un objetivo, los cuales serán extraterrestres. Al terminar la misión, podrán salir de la habitación para continuar con su vida normal.
A great point to highlight of the plot is the evolution of the main character, Kurono Kei, who as a child used to be someone heroic, always fighting with all his strength to help others, being an inspiration for his friend Kato, who decides to be like him in the future. Unfortunately, Kei has now totally lost the heroic traits that characterized him in his childhood, reaching the point of not caring about what might happen to the people around him, just thinking about himself, no matter if someone is in danger, he would never ever get involved in such a situation to save someone. As the story progresses we see how the protagonist is returning to what he was, not without first going through tragic events that encourage him to change. It is a slow evolution but quite well developed, if you compare it to the Kurono Kei of the beginning it is very different from the Kurono Kei of the end.
Un gran punto a destacar de la trama es la evolución del personaje principal, Kurono Kei, quien de pequeño solÃa ser alguien heroico, que siempre luchaba con todas sus fuerzas para ayudar a los demás, siendo una inspiración para su amigo Kato, quién decide ser como él a futuro. Lastimosamente, Kei en la actualidad ha perdido totalmente sus rasgos heróicos que le caracterizaban en la infancia, llegando al punto de no importarle lo que le pueda llegar a pasar a la gente a su alrededor, solo pensando en él mismo, no importa si alguien está en peligro, nunca jamás se verÃa involucrado en una situación asà para salvar a alguien. Conforme avanza la historia vemos como el protagonista va volviendo a ser lo que era, no sin antes pasar por sucesos trágicos que le incentivan a cambiar. Es una evolución lenta pero bastante bien desarrollada, si comparas al Kurono Kei del principio es muy diferente al Kurono Kei del final.
GANTZ has a diverse amount of arcs, some better than others, of which we can find (GANTZ: O)saka which has a very good quality CGI adaptation, you can see it without having read the manga before, as I did. During GANTZ's arcs we will be touching on topics like nihilism and the existence of god, thus having questions about whether it really exists, being also the question of why we exist and why we are forced to live such cruel situations. The approach about the power to revive people by turning them into mere copies, losing the supposed value of their lives before what they previously were, is another situation that arises. In the end, we come to the conclusion that God does not exist, only you can fight against destiny, we only live to survive and only we can do it, those who use the name of God only do it to take advantage of others by pretending to be enlightened, saying pure lies that other people faithfully believe, ending in the process in tragedy. Also during our reading we can see how society is corrupted because we hurt each other, causing suicide attempts or cases of bullying, in a certain part we can see the cruelty in social networks, people who hide there believe they can say anything without any consequence.
GANTZ cuenta con una diversa cantidad de arcos, algunos mejores que otros, de los cuales podremos encontrar (GANTZ: O)saka el cual cuenta con una adaptación en CGI de muy buena calidad, puedes verla sin haberte leÃdo antes el manga, como yo hice. Durante los arcos de GANTZ se tocarán temas como el nihilismo y la existencia de dios, habiendo asà preguntas sobre si de verdad existe, estando también la cuestión de por qué existimos y por qué nos vemos forzados a vivir situaciones tan crueles. El planteamiento sobre el poder revivir a las personas convirtiéndolas en meras copias, perdiendo el supuesto valor de sus vidas ante lo que anteriormente eran, es otra situación que se presenta. Al final de todo se llega a la conclusión de que Dios no existe, solo tú puedes luchar contra destino, solo vivimos para sobrevivir y solo nosotros podemos hacerlo, quiénes usan el nombre de Dios solo lo hacen para aprovecharse de los demás queriéndose hacer pasar por unos iluminados, diciendo asà puras mentiras que otras personas creen fielmente, terminando en el proceso en tragedia. Igualmente durante nuestra lectura podemos ver cómo la sociedad está corrompida debido a que nos hacemos daño entre nosotros, causando intentos de caso de suicidio o casos de bullying, en cierta parte se llega a mostrar la crueldad en redes sociales, la gente que se oculta allà creen que pueden decir lo que sea sin consecuencia alguna.
One thing that caught my attention was that the author himself explains his drawing method within the same manga, something very interesting. First he adds some 3D models and arranges them according to the pose he wants them to do, then on top of them he draws the characters that represent those models, adding later the respective scenarios of the vignettes. The manga has a constant evolution of drawing, the author really tried to improve and not to get stuck in his way of making the lines, the comparison of the design of the characters of the beginning and the end are really very different but you can't notice it while you are reading because it is not a drastic change from one moment to another. The quality of the drawing comes in some points where it is totally masterful, giving rise to totally excellent vignettes and to frame, as well as totally epic battles. A funny fact I want to mention is that Hiroya Oku is considered a pioneer in the hentai, since with GANTZ he says he is the first one who managed to give a movement effect to the naked boobs.
Una cosa que me llamó mucho la atención fue que el propio autor explica su método de dibujo dentro del mismo manga, algo muy interesante. Primero añade unos modelos en 3D y los acomoda según la pose quiere que hagan, luego allà encima de ellos dibuja a los personajes que representaban esos modelos, añadiendo después los respectivos escenarios de las viñetas. El manga tiene una evolución de dibujo constante, el autor de verdad se esforzó en mejorar y en no quedarse atascado en su forma de hacer los trazos, la comparación del diseño de los personajes del principio y del final son realmente muy distintos pero no se nota mientras vas leyendo ya que no es un cambio drástico de un momento a otro. La calidad del dibujo llega en algunos puntos donde es totalmente magistral, dando a lugar viñetas totalmente excelentes y para enmarcar, como también batallas totalmente épicas. Un dato divertido que quiero mencionar es que Hiroya Oku se considera como pionero en el hentai, ya que con GANTZ dice ser el primero que logró darle un efecto de movimiento a los senos desnudos.
In conclusion, GANTZ is an excellent manga seinen that touches social and philosophical topics in a good way, you have to read it with pause and pay great attention not to miss vital information, its art and drawing is totally admirable causing very well done vignettes in almost all its pages, including among them gore or erotic scenes. The cast of main characters and the protagonist himself are very well developed, for sure you are going to get attached to or like several of them. I can affirm that this is one of the works that you should read yes or yes because of the extreme quality it possesses.
En conclusión, GANTZ es un excelente manga seinen que toca temas sociales y filosóficos de buena manera, hay que leerlo con pausa y prestar suma atención para no perderse información de vital importancia, su arte y dibujo es totalmente admirable causando asà viñetas muy bien hechas en casi todas sus páginas, incluyendo entre ellas escenas gore o eróticas. El elenco de personajes principales y el protagonista en sà están muy bien desarrollados, de seguro que te vas a encariñar o te va a gustar varios de ellos. Puedo afirmar que esta es una de las obras que debes de leer sà o sà por la extrema calidad que posee.
