Nanatsu no Taizai or The Seven Deadly Sins is a pretty popular anime, however, I still haven't watched this series yet. I've seen this show being mentioned on groups and other platforms, my brother also recommended it to me a few years ago but I had my own anime list which I religiously follow so I haven't given any attention to it.
Fast forward to last week, through a random selection of ArtPark, the next character presented to be drawn in your style was the character Ban of Nanatsu no Taizai. Well, of course, I have no idea who he is but seeing the sample photo, I had a feeling this character has a strong and spontaneous personality, greedy, brusque, and supported and adored intensely by an army of fangirls. (Correct me if my guesses are wrong. 😂)
THE FOX'S SIN OF GREED
Ban is the Fox's Sin of Greed, one of the Seven Deadly Sins, a group of seven people foreseen by the king of Liones who would protect the kingdom and destroy the ten commandments of demon clan. He is also the kind of Benwick and the husband of Elaine. I've seen a few compilation videos of Ban and Elaine, they look good together even though Elaine is a tiny girl. Those videos make me curious about their story together.
To tell you the truth, I was thinking twice of drawing Ban because he looks too sexy to draw. Haha! I was envisioning of drawing a half body showing his toned muscles though I was hesitant of that idea so I as usual, I settled for portrait shot just like how I drew Nobara. I didn't expect I would be spending about 7 hours drawing Ban because his character design looks simple. However, I had difficulty sketching his hair! It took me about two hours just to draw the draft and I had a couple of versions of Ban's hair because I don't feel satisfied with how I drew his hair. I like the color though.
While drawing the hair kind of pissed me off, I think Ban's eyes are distinct and special. I enjoyed putting those black lines with a wing at the edge. Also, I think the thick black borders and his red eyes gave a nice contrast with his light colored hair. Guess his eyes make him look more sexy.
Based from my observation, Ban's most popular pose is sticking out his tongue. I want to his mouth the same way but I was again chasing time, so I went for the easiest route. Hehe!
Initially, I didn't feel any attachment to Ban's character until I found out that he was voiced by Tattsun (Tatsuhisa Suzuki), the husband of LiSA, my favorite female singer. Now that I knew Ban's voice was by Tattsun, I guess Ban is my favorite Nanatsu no Taizai character, for now. In addition, I recalled Man With A Mission, a band I like, also did a song for this anime. The title of the song is Seven Deadly Sins and it's a cool song in my opinion. Man With A Mission also has a couple of other awesome songs, you may want to check them out too! :)
Drawing Process
I've already mentioned a while ago my frustration about sketching his hair. The sketch of his hair you see below is already the fifth or sixth version. 😂
Since Ban's hair is light colored, I opted not to use darker shade for shadows on his skin. I don't know if it's the right thing to do. Not an expect and I just feel like it. Also added a silhouette to make him pop out, at least, just like how I made my fanart for Taka. Then for the background, I painted and played with blue, pink, red, and yellow colors. Not sure if it was better sticking with a solid color but I guess it would look too plain.
I feel like I could've done a better drawing of Ban. Maybe next time I can draw a better version of him and with his toned body. Though it's a good experience drawing a character from a show I still haven't seen.
