Hello, weebs of Hive! Do you recognize this character?
Draw This in Your Style Week 8 character by ArtPark is no other than Yami Sukehiro from the anime Black Clover. Another character from a show I still haven't watched. And since I haven't seen this anime yet, I badly procrastinated on drawing Yami. Yikes!
I thought my drawing would end up funny but I kind of like the outcome.
Shazam! The magic of procrastination and cramming! 😂
- YAMI SUKEHIRO -
Yami Sukehiro is a captain of the Black Bull squad in the Clover Kingdom and from the Hino Country. He is one of the popular and most-loved Black Clover characters. These are some few things I learned about Yami on the internet.
I was quite challenged drawing Yami because he is different to the types of characters I used to draw. Yami has a manly face and muscular body. This was my first time drawing a character like him.
In addition, drawing the shadows was also a challenge for me but at the same time, I learned how to shade with the light source coming from below.
Based from most of the Yami photos I saw online, he's mostly has this black or violet (or a combination of the two) aura around him or sometimes just around his katana. That's why I added some violet light streaks in front of him. I think it added some awesomeness to him.
Anyway, here is the reference of my Yami drawing. The reference was actually a half body Yami but I opted for a close up shot to avoid drawing more details. In comparison between the two, my drawing looked like a younger Yami.
Oh, and before I forget, while watching clips of Yami, he reminded me of Gildarts from Fairytail. Yami is a badass character, I can tell. He has this strong and intimidating aura but then he can suddenly flip and become silly and odd. Not sure if my hunch is right but for me who have only seen clips, I think his personality is similar with Gildarts.
Drawing Process
I was feeling very lazy to draw Yami to be honest. I think for a couple of days of how I would decently draw him. I wanted to draw early for this entry as well but I guess the opposite was what happened. Motivation only came during the deadline of submission so I have to rush.
For this artwork, I chose to color the lines to grey and black because using a brown color for the art makes it unnoticeable. My process for making this artwork was the same with my previous drawings although for the violet light streaks, I used gaussian blur to make it appear soft. I also copied this layer and placed it below the layer of the violet light streaks and increased the gaussian blur to make the shape more softer and scattered. This makes the glow effect of the light.
Is Yami among your favorite characters? Let me know!
