There have been a lot of popular animated series that I haven't watched yet. It's not that I don't have time to watch them; I just tend to watch other, not-so-popular ones. Either that, or I'm busy reading manga pr Webtoons. hahaha
I just watched Frieren, Golden Kamuy, and Tensura this year, even though they were released years earlier... and recently, I finished the first and second seasons of Dan Da Dan, and I want to talk about them.
NOTE: All photos I'll be using are from Dan Da Dan's Official Website.
A popular high school girl named Ayase Momo was trying to process her feelings following her breakup. While doing so, she saw her socially awkward schoolmate, Takakura Ken, being bullied, so she approached him and stood up for him.
However, that incident led him to believe she had become his new friend, who is also obsessed with aliens and UFOs. However, she doesn't think that they exist; instead, she insists that ghosts and spirits in the supernatural realm are the ones that exist.
Because of this, a rivalry between them started. They both want to prove the other wrong, so they challenged each other.
Despite their opposing beliefs, they ended up forming an intimate bond and found themselves drawn to paranormal occurrences. They both developed abilities beyond normal and started a partnership to allow survival.
In season two, the gang kept growing... so did the number of mysteries and supernatural entities going after them. XD
I was already quite aware of the story because I've heard about this anime a lot. I've also read a couple of chapters of the manga, but didn't continue, because I thought it would be interesting to follow the animated version for this.
I'm a fan of the supernatural, though more similar to Momo, than Okarun (Takakura Ken). I especially like stories about Japanese yokai and urban legends. I find them entertaining, and I've learned more about them after talking with some of my students. haha
Though I'm not much into aliens, I do watch some videos and read articles related to sightings and other stuff. I believe they exist somewhere in this vast universe... though I hope they won't be the same as the ones in this anime. Well, except for Chiquitita and Mr. Mantis Shrimp. This father-and-child duo is adorable! <3
The concept and story are to my liking! And the characters are so fun! I love Granny Seiko! She's the coolest... and I also really like Jin because of the gap in his character... the cool yet goofy type. And whenever he transforms into Evil Eye, I just swoon! hahaha
This eccentric anime is perfect for an eccentric excuse-for-a-human like me. hahaha It reminded me of when I was working in the English Academy. One of my Korean students claimed that he's a wolf, and that he doesn't believe I'm fully human. He said there's anime in my blood. hahaha
And ohh... the final scene from season two reminds me of Voltes V and Ultraman. hahaha I don't know why, but it's so nostalgic. The art style is to my liking, and the animation is so colorful and fun! The soundtrack is a banger!
The comical side of the story is also very entertaining... and for some reason, I don't mind the slight romance they're portraying. I just love awkward relationships like the one they have. I hope it stays that way and won't turn into a full-on romance genre, especially after watching the final episode. XD
Anyway, the third season has been confirmed, though there aren't any specific details yet. I'm looking forward to
watching it. I can't wait to see what their next adventure will be.
I'll end this post here. Thanks for reading, and see you around! (^^,)/
