The manga and manhua's that I had been reading over the past years are getting some anime adaptation and because of that some uploads are becoming slower than the usual. As a way to cope up with everything I read this manhua Freezing The World: I Built A Doomsday Safehouse in Mangabat and I can say that I am not a fan of this series.
Let's start first with the synopsis
At first, I was intrigued by the description, a reincarnation and apocalyptic-themed series. The premise is good since most of the time reincarnation-type series are connected with Murim leveling style; hence, I gave it a go.
The first chapters were okay; we have the MC Zhang Yi swearing revenge on the people who killed him in the first round, as people in this period have no other choice but to eat him due to lacking food within their area.
He also gained supernatural powers, which is an infinite storage when he returned from the past before the apocalyptic event that purged most of the population.
When the COVID pandemic hit our area, groceries were ransacked, and stores were almost empty. This is what the MC did; he bought a ton of food, medicine, and other stuff in preparation for the winter. People are wondering what is going on, but the MC just keeps on buying for himself.
I can understand that there's a need for self-preservation, but what I did not like is the MC doesn't have any friends or relatives that he notified of the upcoming misery that everyone will experience. He just hoards everything for himself, which I think is petty.
As I continued reading this series, his character kept on decreasing and becoming pettier than ever. He even instigated people to do the killing for a portion of the food that he didn't give after.
Translation-wise, some panels have missing text, and at times there is still Chinese language written. It was poor per se, but the images will just show what is going on with the series.
There is no romance in this series, though there are some explicit scenes; it is more the type that the other character needs to do to get the favor of the MC.
After reading almost 60 chapters, I am not really recommending this series due to those reasons. The theme is dark, and though it shows the reality that people can go to such lengths for their revenge, still the story is lacking in beauty and backstories.
